Congratulations, error code "E09" is the grossly under-documented "planned obsolescence feature" called, rather matter-of-factly, "End of Life". This means that ~7 years after first being powered up, the unit will, BY DESIGN, cease to function, forcing you to buy a replacement. Would have been nice of Kidde to include THAT warning on the OUTSIDE of the package. Call their "Hotline" at 1-800-880-6788 and tell them what you think of that policy. If it is still under warranty (5 or 7 years depending on date of manufacture) they should replace it. In any event, buy another one; if they replace your first one you will have twice the protection. Not a bad thing. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. Words to live by: "Every creative act results from a sudden cessation of stupidity." -Edwin H. How do I use my nighthawk carbon monoxide/explosive gas alarm to check the levels of carbon monoxide in my home?

If it's plugged in, has a fresh battery and shows no error code, it should be doing the job. *Disclaimer: I am not a lawyer, despite the handle. I have a nighthawk carbon monoxide alarm which is showing nan error code. Please can you tell me what to do to rectify it? Thank you.

You can unplug the unit if it's an AC detector, change the battery for a new one and reset the Carbon Monoxide Detector. If that doen't work, you can have it checked by your local fire department. If the unit is more than 5 years old, it absolutely needs to be replaced.

Whenever in doubt about the efficiency of a carbon monoxide detector, a replacement is recommended. Yes, protection has a price, but a life cannot be replaced.

Good Morning, My nighthawk CO detector went off with a loud continuous alarm this morning while all were sleeping. I reset it and it is not alarming now. I pushed the peak button and it reads 19. The...

When a carbon monoxide detector sends an alarm, there is cause for concern. You mentioned that the other CO detector did not go off, but maybe it is too far away to monitor the carbon monoxide levels that was in this area.

The instructions in your manual would direct you to evacuate the house immediately and ventilate. Your next step is to get a professional to inspect what may have caused the carbon monoxide leak.

A reading of 19 indicates that there is carbon monoxide in that area of your house, unless your CO detector is not working properly. Your local fire department will give you the best advice for what action to take when a carbon monoxide detector sends an alarm.

Be safe, don't assume a carbon monoxide alarm is cause by a defective CO detector, have it inspected.

Error code keeps coming up on nighthawk carbon monoxide detector

An error code on a Carbon Monoxide Detector is a serious matter that should be looked at immediately. Your local fire department will be glad to help you with this issue.

If the error code keeps coming, it may mean that you have a defective unit. If the unit is new, you should be able to get a replacement where you boutht it. A unit that is more than 5 to 7 years old should be replaced, see manufacturer recommendations.

My nighthawk carbon monoxide alaram is keep biping

Check your user manual for issues dealing with beeping alarms.

Your local fire department may be able to help educate you on the proper installation and use of Carbon Monoxide Detectors. A CO detector alarm should be taken seriously and you should follow the manufacturer procedures included in the package.

NEVER dismiss a Carbon Monoxide Detector Alarm for a malfunction.
ALWAYS treat an alarm as an emergency and follow manufacturer procedures.

My nighthawk Kidde carbon monoxide detector keeps beeping every 25-30 seconds. Do I need to buy a new one?

Some models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors will give an audible beep every 25-30 seconds after it has sounded an alert alarm. This may have happened when there was noone home to hear it. A periodic beeping sound may also indicate it is time to change the battery.

Solution: Install a new battery and check your manual for instructions on how to reset the system. Check the expiry date on your unit, it needs to be replaced after 5 to 7 years, according to the manufacturer specifications.

If you are in doubt that your Carbon Monoxide Detector is not working effectively, REPLACE IT. Your safety and your peace of mind is worth it.

WE PURCHASED A NIGHTHAWK CARBON MONOXIDE ALARM TWO YEARS AGO FOR $50.00. THE OTHER EVE. IT WENT OFF WITH A CODE THE SAID ERROR AND THEN WHEN I RESET, IT SAID 888....IS IT SHOT OR IS THERE SOMETHING WE CAN...

I had this problem as well...and if you look at the date of manufacture on the back of the unit and it's more than 7 years old then the unit is out of warranty and needs to be replaced. If you have a receipt from wherever you purchased it proving that you only owned the unit for a few years, then they will replace it at no charge. Call the Kidde customer service # at 800-880-6788. Good Luck!

Lost manual for the nighthawk carbon monoxide detector, model no.900-0082-00 made in 11/1996. hasnt been used for several years.DON'T KNOW HOW TO SET IT.

Hold on!

All carbon monoxide detectors have to be replaced after 5 years of manufacture date. The sensors are not reliable after that time and may give false readings.

A carbon monoxide detector is your only defense against the hazards of Carbon Monoxide Poisoning. I would never recommend installing a used Detector. Ask your local fire department for more professional advice on how and where you should install carbon monoxide detectors.

Carbon monoxide is on

When a Carbon Monoxide Detector alarm goes off, you should follow the procedures that came with the manufacturer manual. Even when the alarm sounds, you cannot smell, taste, or see this dangerous silent killer known as Carbon Monoxide.

Have your house checked by your local fire department for possible levels of CO gas readings. If this all checks out, you can go online to Kidde Nighthawk website and find the manual for your Carbon Monoxide detector model.

Hopefully, you found your solution since you posted this question back in Dec, 2008. Go to my website to read industry information and to view most Brands and Models of Carbon Monoxide Detectors.

YES!!!! If this unit is working properly you should not be in the house. Maximum allowable safety level for an 8 hour period is 50! If you think it's working properly call the fire department! This will cause dizziness, nausea, etc. Let your fire department find the problem! If you don't believe me follow this link to owner's manual but do it quickly: http://www.kiddeus.com/utcfs/ws-384/Assets/KN-COB-B(9CO5)en.pdf
