Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

Install IPL for casio TE-8500. I saved the ipl in CF Card. I insert the CF Card and chose the CF CARD option then press the YES button. After pressing the YES another screen comes up INITIAL PROGRAM LOAD START IPL I select Start IPL, and press Yes, the Err2 massage comes up. I urgently need the solution. Please tell me the steps. do not just give me a link to download Manual or give me a number to call casio, or ask me to talk to the dealer. I want to do it by myself. I'm waiting on line, thank you very much in advance.

hi, thanks for rerply. yes, i can read the card successfully with my computer. What do you mean "IPL in the root of the CF card". I know the Ipl is right for my register, but i think i don't know where I should put it. Could you explain to me the "root"? Do I need to make a "root" and how? I'm on line now.
    Thank you so much.

hi, Tim, i think i need to make the cf card Bootable with my cash register with the IPL inside the CF card, right? can you tell me how?

  • computerccc Sep 29, 2010

    hi, Tim,
I did it, I formatted the CF with fat32, put the IPL directly in CF card (no folder), I tried it, (I had the link you gave me), followed the instruction, (it's a little bit different with the picture's instrucition ) , select "install IPL", press yes, "err 2" massage comes up.
Any good suggestion? thank you very much for your time.

  • computerccc Sep 29, 2010

by the way, my ipl with register now is version 1.50 and i need to down it to version 1.42. thanks.

  • computerccc Sep 29, 2010

Hi, Tim, there is a driver for this cash register. i install this software in my laptop, it's called "CV-31", i run this programme, there is a window comes up "Branch Details" , it's a form. what is it for? Has it anything to do with IPL?
    thanks.

  • computerccc Sep 29, 2010

thank you very much. you're so nice. as i know, it would be ok. do you think i can do it with the cash register connect to my computer? not with the cf card?

  • computerccc Sep 30, 2010

Hello, Tim, are you still helping me? sorry to push you. Really need to solve the problem asap. thank you.

  • computerccc Sep 30, 2010

    Hi, Tim,
YOu're so nice. but I think casio expert only talk to dealer for this kind of high level machine. I'm not the dealer, but i got to solve the problem for the machine. and the dealer from whom i bought this product is too busy and always ask me to wait, but i don't want to wait. I got to solve it asap. if you have any new idea, please let me know. i'm still waiting here. thanks again.i appreciate your kindness.

  • computerccc Sep 30, 2010

i did try to download it and it's the same err 2 massage.
for the link you sent to me (i also had it before), I followed exactly the first five steps. for the sixth step (the last step), I didn't follow, coz after the fifth step, there are a few choices
    "INITIAL PROGRAM LOAD
START IPL", I moved to "start IPL", and press "yes", "err 2" massage comes up.
Thank you very much for your great effort on it.

Can you read the CF card on a computer successfully? Do you have the IPL in the root of the CF card? It sounds like the IPL may be corrupted or not compatible with your register. Do you have an alternative IPL you can try?

I don't think it needs to be bootable, just needs to be in the first director on the drive, for example if it is your F: drive that is the CF reader, it would be F:\whateverIPLfile... instead of F:\Folder\whateverIPLfile

I am checking this now but I dont think it needs to be "bootable".

AH ok, make sure you are following these instructions as well, I would transcribe them here, but it has nice pictures and everything in these instructions:

Also make sure the CF card is formatted with FAT32... not NTFS, just to make sure the cash register can read it.

If you need to do this, make sure all data is off the CF card, copied to your computers desktop for example, then go Start and RUN or in the box at the bottom (depending on windows version) type in cmd and press enter.

Then in the command line window type in:

    format e: /FS:FAT32

where e: is the drive letter of your flash drive, make sure it is the correct drive letter..

Then put the ipl file on the cf drive, just right onto it, onto the "root" as mentioned before, just meaning right on the main part of the drive, no folders

I see, that could be the problem there, I don't know if you can force it to downgrade. I am checking this out now...

    Tim Grayson Sep 29, 2010

Still checking, I am not sure that you can in fact load an older IPL overtop a newer one. I am waiting to hear back from Casio on this one.

Well you can try, but I am not sure how you would load the IPL file from the computer, it is meant to be loaded from something like the CF card. According to Sam in tech support at Casio it is not possible to downgrade the IPL unless it is done at the factory. I am not sure if this is really the truth or not, and he wanted to have me try a few things but I had to admit I am not the end user. Maybe you should try calling in, their number is 1-800-706-253. I am still researching this on my end as well, but it wouldn't hurt to try from your side to see if there is anything they can walk you through.

No problem, I had to run somewhere for a bit, definitely still helping. It's weird because I posted the next step / solution a few minutes before you did... I bet you were typing as I posted it :)

Let me know, and I am still researching. Have to run somewhere for a while again but will be back much sooner this time for sure.

    Thanks

No problem whatsoever, I am still checking for sure, you may want to re-download or re-obtain a new copy of that IPL file just to make sure it isn't corrupted or damaged somehow. It may just be a bad file, which is impossible to tell unless you know the checksum of the file and have a way to verify it.

    Thanks, still looking though,

It appears you can not go down a level in IPL... did you try the do it with a "new" copy of the IPL file? That's about the only possibly explanation is the one you are trying to load is not "complete".

    Thanks
    Tim

  • Tim Grayson
    Tim Grayson Sep 30, 2010

Yes another copy of the IPL file, if possible from another source just in case the place you are getting it from has a corrupted copy on their server. I have seen this happen quite a few times, not just with IPL files, with any type of file. Data corruption can occur, and you can sit there pulling your hair out trying to figure out why it isn't working, while all the time it is just a "bad" file and just needs to be re-downloaded.

I really think it may be stuck at that newer IPL level... it's like trying to backwards on a BIOS level on a computer, once you upgrade many motherboards will not let you downgrade without physically replacing chips on the board. Did you try getting a hold of the sales person you spoke of, or Casio directly to confirm what they told me? Still seeing if there is some other way...

You have halted the firmware due to a failure to load IPL. This is recoverable if you do a hard reset. See your service and programming manuals for hard reset and IPL instructions. Make sure you have the correct IPL and loader for your region. If you don't need to replace the IPL then do not attempt it

Try your local community college data processing department. They can probably tell you where to get the software. You might also try some business based web groupds for an answer. Or you could look on eBay for a working replacement which may cheaper and quicker than the other option.

Casio te 2400 How to download Z tape to Compact Flash Card

Found this on another website. I have not tried it to verify, but it sounds reasonable:
http://www.baystatepos.com/CasioTE-2400spec.html

Insert a CF FLASH CARD into the front of the register before taking a "Z" report. Turn the manager's key to Z1 and press CASH AMOUNT TENDER to issue a BATCH report of all sales activity, which prints from the register's receipt printer. This report information is also automatically written to the CF Flash Card capturing the register's terminal number and date of the report. This data is formatted as a "TXT" file and can be open with Microsoft EXCEL. Use EXCEL to combine multiple register totals. Create historical report data and e-mail the reports to corporate or to district managers. Saves time and reduces transposition errors.

Use the CF Flash Card to save the entire register program before moving the register to a new venue where it can be reprogrammed in a flash with the new menu.

Oh dear. Why are you wiping the IPL? You are seriously screwing up the firmware in the machine. It might be best to see a dealer to have them change IPLs for you

Press your "Auto PGM" key until you see CF card. Then back up and or restore from there. You may need to format the card also, especially if it is over 4Gigs.

I have a problem with the Casio te-2200, the error IPL E02 displays on the and keyboard keys do not work, can anyone advise.

Oh dear. The IPL is the operating system, or firmware of the machine. It may end up needing a new IPL loaded into it. I have never had an IPL error without a good reason. However, you can try the basic things first. Open the cover on the side of the machine, and you will see the socket(s) for connecting PC, scanner etc. Also in there is a small hole (it may have a piece of tape over it). Inside the hole is a little button. Put something gently in the hole (while turned on), and press the button. The screen should change to show 'init' or '000000000' or both.
Now, turn power off at wall.
Turn the key to PROGRAM or PGM mode
Hold down RECEIPT FEED.
Turn on power at wall.
When you see the display change to 'FFFFFFFFFFF' let go of RECEIPT FEED, then press SUBTOTAL.
If the display does not change to 'FFFFFFFFFFF' then DO NOT press SUBTOTAL, just leave the machine, and message me again.

If all went well, turn back to REG mode, and try it.
