Question about DEI Valet Keyless Entry System

1 Answer

My DEI Valet system will not operate the door locks. It responds to the remote with lights flashing as normal, but it does not engage or disengage the lock. The Automautic start feature continues to work but sets off the alarm due to engine starting and the doors being locked from inside. Confusing I know, but simple fix I need!

The make is an 05 chevrolet silverado, all functions included were door locks, engine start. Factory alarm keyless entry continues to work. Full function with stock entry system.

You failed to mention the year/make/model of the vehicle so, I will assume that there existed some sort of door lock/unlock/alarm disarm bypass module in your vehicle that is no longer functioning. There is no simpler fix then either resetting the module or, remove and replace it.

Ok, That year Silverado has multiplex door locks. There are several bypass modules on the market that will bypass the doors and the key all in one unit. You may have seperate modules because if you had an all in one the remote starter wouldn't be working etiher. There is no quick fix for it. It could be hardwired, which I doubt but, you never know. That's labor intensive with soldering wires to the circuit board in the drivers door. You could look for a seperate module under the dash but, without the experience you won't know what tto look for. You could follow the wires from your diagnostic plug's purple wire and see what's connected.

Need a DEI Remote Replacement Now? Try our all New Remote Quick-Find
Not sure what type of Replacement Remote you need?
In order to enter Learn Routine, the Valet/Program push button must be plugged
into the main brain's Blue 2 Pin Port (Look for a small black push button located under
the drivers dash or drivers kick panel somewhere). If you do not have the Valet/Program switch, you may order it at www.lesscoelectronics.com or www.lesscosales.com

1)
Open a door and make sure the dome light is on.

2)
Turn the ignition on to the RUN position or you may also start car.

3)
Within 15 seconds press and release the Valet/Program push button
to select the channel you wish to program. For example, press and release
once for channel 1 (arm/disarm channel).
For Channel 2, press and release twice (trunk release).
For Channel 3, press and release three times (remote start).
(Some DEI systems require different programming for different channels. You
can get specific installation manuals with remote programming instruction)

Press and hold the Valet/Program push button once more. You should get a
confirmation chirp/horn-honk or a flashing LED light (If installed).
If you do not get a chirp/horn-honk the alarm may have a jumper in
the alarm that has the programming feature turned OFF (disabled).

4)
Once the alarm chirps/horn-honks keep holding the Valet/Program push button.

5)
Press the button on the transmitter that you would like to control the selected receiver
channel. A chirp/horn-honk will confirm that the code has been learned. If programming
more than one transmitter repeat step 5. Old transmitter codes will be dropped only
if programming 4 new transmitters.

6)
Once the code(s) are learned, the Valet/Program push button can be released.

Learn Routine will be Exited if:

Ignition is turned off
Door is closed
Valet/Program push button is pressed too many times
More than 15 seconds elapses between steps
One long chirp/horn-honk indicates that Learn Routine has been exited.

Will not lock or unlock doors

Does the unit respond when you press the unlock button, i.e., two chirps from the siren and/or parking lights flashing? If so, then the door lock wires are no longer connected or, there is an issue with the vehicle's door lock actuators.
If the Viper system does not respond with the above mentioned sounds and lights, then the remote is not programmed to system.
To program: turn the ignition on, press and release the valet switch one time then, press and hold the valet switch. While holding the switch, press the lock button on the remote. The system should respond with a long chirp from the siren.

I have a Viper 5301. Just recently the blue light on the valet stopped blinking when the car is locked with the remote. It just stays on all of the time, no blink. At the same time, the remote started...

The blue light on solid means that your alarm is in the valet mode. Open any door, press lock, unlock, lock. This should put the alarm back into an active mode. Afterwards, check the system for normal operation.

04 Escalade w / Valet Starter, all works but door locks

Hello 7suds,

Well, I'd go back and tell them about the doorlock problem. I know that 2 years is a little late to start complaining, but it's most likely a really easy fix.

The most probably causes are that the power doorlock output was either not programmed, programmed incorrectly, or it's not connected or improperly connected to the vehicle servos. Have the installer check the programming, especially the doorlock pulse duration. It's also possible that the remote is simply not sending the doorlock signal. Could just be a bad button. Have them switch the doorlock function to the right "AUX" button temporarily and see if that works. But in any case, the system needs to be tested to find out exactly what is causing the doorlock failure.

Hope this helps.

Security system not working as it used to

i read this on the subaru tech bulletin page
i had the same problem - apparently i had inadvertently put the system into "valet" mode
to get back to normal, unlock with remote - open drivers door - hold down the unlock button on your remote for 2-3 sec - the flashing light will go out and your system should be back to normal
it's too bad the manual doesn't supply information about activating and deactivating "valet" mode
good luck
