Many times the thermocouple will build up so corrosion where it seats into the gas valve. This will cause the heater to just go out at random time. When the pilot goes out it will turn the gas valve off so no gas will escape from the valve.

Try cleaning the end of the thermocouple and see it that takes care of your problem.

My wall heater is a williams gas wall heater and I just had a question is the pilot always suspose to be lit the main is not lit but when it is off there Is still a flame that's on Ithink its the pilot is...

All gas appliances have a constant on pilot light. This keeps you from having to light it everytime it goes on. The pilot flame is small, and usually mostly blue in color. If there is any yellow or orange color in the flame then the jet is dirty, which can cause a malfunction ( just thinking this could be handy to know!).

The pilot won't stay lit on gas hot water tank.

Make sure thermocouple tip is seated inside the burner flame.
Make sure thermocouple is not overtightened. Finger-tight + 1/4 turn.
If the pilot lights, then ECO energy cut off is not tripped, but gas control valve might be bad.
Check color of pilot flame: it should be strong and clear blue.
If pilot flame is weak, or color of flame is yellow-orange: Clean pilot orifice and burner and combustion parts on yearly basis.
Clean air intake screen if applicable.
Increase air supply to water heater. Open a window and see what happens.
Check for adequate draft going up chimney using match under vent hood to see if smoke drafts immediately upwards.
Bleed air out of gas line.
Check gas pressure.

Kenmore Water heater, Model # 153.339462, Pilot lights, burner burns for approx. 10 - 15 minutes then both go out. after which it is more difficult to light the pilot. I need ideas please

Clean combustion parts, clean air intake, get more air to water heater and see if problem continues.
Look at color of burner flame and pilot flame: if flame has yellow-and-orange instead of clear blue flame, then combustion parts need cleaning.

Pilot and burner problems can be caused by bad thermocouple, thermocouple not sitting in flame, weak pilot flame due to dirty tube or low gas pressure, air in gas line, no draft up vent, backdraft coming down vent, dirty combustion parts, clogged air intake, insufficient air, insufficient air quality, hot attic, bad gas control valve, etc.

Jandy LG250N pilot won't stay on after releasing switch on gas valve. Main switch on unit is off. I am able to keep pilot flame on for one minute by depressing switch but pilot always goes out after...

Thank you for posting your question here on Fixya.com.

No, the pilot generator or the pilot head itself is the issue. You need a good, solid blue flame across the generator to get enough power to hold the switch open when you let go of the knob. If the pilot flame is week or not aimed across the generator it will not stay lit.

If it is but the generator is old and weak, it will go out as well. If you can see the pilot flame and it is a nice blue color, replace the generator. If it is not, disassemble the pilot and either clean it out or replace it.

Set on pilot to lite heater. Once i release valve pilot goes off. This happened several times.

the pilot flame should sweep about 3/8" to 1/2" of the thermocouple. if this is happening then your thermocouple is bad and need to be replaced. pilot should be blue in color and be a sharp flame not lazy and yellow tipped

Pilot light flame is mostly yellow. LP gas

Hi,
Thr thing you need to do is take the pilot assembly all apart and blow the dust and dirt out of it.
After burning for many, many hours the air that is move up through the pilot assembly leaves dust and dirt which plugs off a bit of the air and makes the flame run rich. Meaning that it does not get enough air mixed in for complete combustion.
When you clean it you will see the dirt and dust com out of it.
Reassemble carefully just as you took it apart and it will be back to working great again!!

I hope that this will help you to solve your problem!

Pilot light seems to high

there may be an adjustment screw for pilot height. you'll have to look at the valve. a pilot should have an inner cone of greenish blue color and the surrounding flame should be a deep blue no yellow or orange tips. the pilot burns pure fuel no air. the main valve does mix air with the gas in order to burn.
