It cam be bad cap in the power supply section or backlight inverter circuits problem, worst case can be the lamp.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for:
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

Screen is not working?

If the screen is black, then with computer on, shine a strong flashlight on the screen at about a 20 degree angle (90 degrees would be pointing the light right at the screen). Move it around to see if any of the expected graphics (e. g., login request) are visible. If so, your backlight is not working, but everything else is fine. A backlight failure is usually due to a dead fluorescent tube, but sometimes is the result of a bad inverter. If you have an LED backlight, check the LED driver circuit first.

How to check if you laptop screen has gone out

turn on the laptop, if fan is running and the lights that normally work are working.
shine a bright light on the screen if you see a low lit display the screen is fine.
Its either your Backlight or screen inverter which provides the power to the screen.

My pc doesnt' work

Can you hear the mac startup sound? If you hear then its booting up.

Let it finish booting. Press the Brightness keys on the keyboard "F1 and F2" does the screen backlight turns on? if not use a flashlight and shine it on the screen.if you can see your desktop then your backlight has problems.

No picture, sound works good

Sounds like a backlight fault. Dim the lights in the room and turn on the set. Shine a bright flashlight on the screen, you should see a faint picture. If you do, you have a backlight problem

Sony cyber shot dsc-t10 backlight not working

Yes, the backlight is a separate part. It can be removed from the LCD and replaced.
The following video shows how to replace the backlight in a Sony camera.

Backlight on screen doesn't work. I can see an

It's usually the inverter...not the backlight.

You need to take off the front lcd bezel and look below the lcd, that's the inverter. Match up the part numbers with another one on ebay, swap it, and you're good to go.

Probably cost you 10-20 bucks.

Goodmans gtvl32w27hdf - screen is flickering and picture is darker than it should, but sound is fine. Have tried turning off and on. doesn't matter what channnel you're on and its the same for video so i...

It is most likely the screen backlight. LCD TVs have thin fluorescent lamps and a part called an inverter board which is a transformer similar to a light ballast.

Inverters are typically a $50-100 part and are trivial for any technician to replace. The backlight lamps themselves tend to go pinkish when near the end-of-life, and are a low-cost part, but it requires a lot of work to change the lamps.

IF the LCD display itself is good, then the screen image should remain perfect and undistorted...if the backlight fails altogether, you should be able to see the image by shining a bright flashlight directly on the screen (only as a test, not as a long term solution, obviously :) )

Cant see anything on my sony vaio pcg-72dl screen its just blank

Your backlighting may be out.

Try shining a flashlight onto the screen with the lights off in the room.

If you can vaguely see your desktop on the screen, then your backlighting is out.

Let me know if this works,

Black LCD

Sounds like you have a bad backlight, the backlight shines light through the translucent LCD layers to give you your picture in the same way you hold slides up to the light
