SOURCE: Dell e173fp monitor, how to open it correctly?

mine is an e173fpc model, I can tell you how to open it. I'm not the best with giving directions so sorry. If your monitor is facing you, you want to look around the outside edge there appears to be a seam going clear around. Get a flathead screwdriver and I started with the seam on the bottom...there are two little spaces down there that a flathead will fit into, just insert and give it a little twist in the first space it will pop it open a little bit, then do the second space. From there I really could not see any more spaces, but I just drug my flathead along the seam twisting it in about three spots on each side all the way around. It will work and it will not break it. Each time you twist the flathead a little it will pop that part off. I hope this was helpful.

Sounds to me like a power inverter. Fix it yourself with the parts found on Ebay at a cheap cost to yourself. The entire Dell E173FP 17" power inverter is selling for $29.99 plus shipping.

The fix can be found at: http://syscon.wordpress.com/2007/07/13/dell-dell-e172fpb-lcd-backlight-repair/

Cheers and good luck!!

Hello, my Dell E173FP 17" LCD Monitor has a blinking power light and wont turn on.

It has shorted out transistors in the inverter circuits, check them out first, also check the fuse in the inverters section.
If you are going to DIY and have proper tools and know safety precaution then please read on:
Most common failures in the LCD monitors are bad capacitors (bulging top/seal or leaking) in the power supply (they should be replaced in a set), blown fuses; poor solder joints, failed inverter circuits (blown fuse, shorted transistors, shorted/open transformers), bad lamps (poor solder connections or worn out lamps). You will need to open it up and inspect the inside, see example of failed monitors to get some ideas what to look for: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further and it will help out other people in the future also.

My monitor quits working after a while. It just goes black. What should I do?

one, your lcd screens inverter might be blown. two, your video card might be gone. three, both might be gone. check for any blown capacitors on ur video card. if none, open the casing of you lcd and unmount the giant chunk of metal shielding. make sure you wait a couple hour for the good capacitors to discharge. check for the cylinder looking electronic components. if any of them are leaking anything onto the board, throw the lcd out. if any have rounded tops or burst open tops (they should be flat) throw the lcd out. if any have burst open tops and had spewed stuff out, throw away the lcd. check for these on your motherboard from time to time as well as your video card.

Dell E173FP 17 monitor went dark and not working. I restart the pc it shows for only few second and went out again. I plug in one other monitor in my pc and it work fairly well. So something not right with...

Hi!

There are three possible cause why your monitor went black and start working..

1. If your monitor is dead set.. no reaction or lights turn on after power on.. then it needs to check if there is blown capacitor in its power supply section..

2. The high voltage ballast transformer of the backlight inverter is burned - it needs to be replaced so that it will not have a direct effect on the power supply section of the monitor.

3. The backlight inverters are all busted - the backlight was located at the upper and lower back edge of the monitor.. If these lights are busted then all that will be seen in your monitor is black screen.. It will need to be replaced so that image display will come out from your screen..

These 3 reason and its solutions can only be done by yourself if you have the knowledge, proper skills and the right tools to open the back cover of the monitor and replace the problem parts....

Otherwise, bring your monitor to a credible technician and if there is warranty,, avail of this...

Hope that answer your question..

Much appreciated if you rate this help..thanks..

My dell monitor turns on for 2 seconds then goes black and the green light blinks orange

I assume that you already try this monitor on another PC to verify that the problem is in the monitor, in this case you need to open it up and inspect the fuse, transitors, solder connections on the power/inverter board, see failed Dell monitors here for guide: http://s807.photobucket.com/home/budm/allalbums
Post back what you see inside so we can guide you further.

Has power but no display

Do the flashlight test. Shine flashlight on front of screen at angle and see if you can see an image or lettering. If so, it is probably inverter board. Let me know first if you have an image.

Dell e173fp monitor power

These monitors are a pain to open up. The inverter circuit for the backlight is on the right side of the monitor when veiwed from the front, part is c5707(marked) or 2sc5707(actual part number) around $1, there are 4 of them, one or 2 usually fail. Sometimes this failure can cause damage to one or more of the corresponding transformers which can can be visibly be seen affecting(melted) the yellow wrap. Be sure to check for dry joints around the affected area as the boards are very badly made, primarily around these transistors and transformers or the fault could reoccur soon after the repair. The same fault occurs in the dell 19", part number is 2sc5706. I hope this helps you out.
