can Nikon Coolpix L11 camera use as Webcan and how to connect/use.

  • littlecounte May 26, 2008

Hi, I have a Nikon Coolpix L12. I had no problems downloading photos to my Macintosh computer until very recently. No changes were made to the system setup, to my knowledge. I have tried the camera on both a four year old iMac and latest model Intel Macintosh-cannot download to either anymore.
'Pictureproject' has been installed, and my Macintosh also has 'iPhoto'. But when I plug in the camera, and turn it on, these programs do not recognise that there is a camera installed, so I cannot download the photos. Strangely, the camera will not display an image on the 'viewfinder' when it is plugged into the computer - yet when I unplug the camera, the viewfinder works again! Very frustrating.

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use Nikon Transfer or any other photo cataloging program.

SOURCE: nikon l11 and mac drivers

You can download the drivers from here. On the page, it says that the driver is only supported by Windows, though I'm pretty sure it works with Mac as well. I think the driver you need is PTP. There's also a setting in the camera for this, just change it in the Set Up > Interface > USB menu. Can't say this is 100% the solution, since I don't have a Mac system available to me.

Good luck.

I'm sorry but you can't use the camera as a webcam. Here is why. There is no function on the camera to stream video.
Also, the camera goes into standby mode after 30 seconds (by default). And 3 minutes after that, it shuts off completely. It does that to save batteries. Again. I'm sorry. Good webcams average between $20. to $50. usd and they are made to work 24 hours a day 7 days a week.

You can use a 4GB memory card in your camera, as long as it's an SD card.

If you get that message, it means you haven't formatted the card for use in that camera. You have to format the card in the camera before you use it.

Even though the solution was not what you prpbably wanted, don't let it stop you from rating it a fixya. I would appreciate it. Let me know if I can help you with anything else, and thanks for coming to FixYa.

Batteries wont work on my Nikon L11

Hello

i have used Digipower AA rechargable and Everready AA rechargable batteries without a problem lasting a long time in this model.

you may have a problem with the battery charger itself.

batteries i am using are rated at 2400-2500 ma

in the menu button, select shooting menu - set up - scroll all the way down to battery type, select the battery type you are using and press ok in the center of the button.

you can use the coolpix nimh selection for other rechargable brands.
