Chain spins when not cutting

Sounds like a clutch issue but if the chain is spinning once you start the unit you'll need to do some adjusting to your carb.

Replacing a broken chain break

Use the IPL (exploded parts list) as a guide for repair. You can also order a complete assembly (use it as pattern for repair of the first).
The complete assembly is usually at the top of the illustration containing the clutch cover. A complete assembly for my 359 is less than $23 at Jacks Small Engine.

How can you tell what the year of manufacture of Husqvarna 136 chainsaw. the owner can not find manual and does not know the fuel ratio. One online manual showed 40:1 and the other 50:1. It depended on the...

Duplicate Post:
If properly tuned with a fresh 50:1 fuel mix it will operate flawlessy regardless of what the manual says. To rich a mixture accelerates carbon build up on the piston and spark arrestor screen and may actually be harmful to your saw. The run lean condition is most often caused by running straight gasoline or an air leak not detected by the operator.
With a little input on your part this should answer your question as asked:

If older than 2000 it gets murky; I recommend you contact Husky.

Fuel/Oil Mixture
  1. Use a quality 2 cycle oil and mix it to the OIL supplier's recommended ratio. Today I use Stihl 2 cycle oil mixed @ 50:1 in a Pioneer that I purchased new in 1980. There are no gouges or scratches on the piston or cylinder and I have no carbon build up on the piston top. The manual (on stone tablets) recommends 24:1. Over the years the mixture has leaned from 24:1 (Saw Recommendation) to 28:1 (Lawn boy mower recommendation) to 32:1 (Oil provider 2gal premium/8oz chainsaw 2-cycle engine oil - used for many years) and finally the last 5 (±) years 50:1 (1gal premium/2.6oz Stihl 2-cycle engine oil)
  2. Any fuel containing ethanol is not good with chainsaws. Mix what you expect to use within a few weeks. Anything over 1.5 months old use up in a 4 cycle engine. HTH

When I top up the chain oil it runs out of the opposite side really rapidly, I don't see how to fill it in the instruction booklet

Are you using bar oil? Is it less than 2 years old (warranted)? Did the chain come off and hit the tank?
I think your saw may have been impacted and the oil tank is broken. I didn't see an oil vent on the IPL but if the filler is on the bottom of the saw and you must lay it on its side to fill there must be one. Take it and your bar oil with you and stop by your friendly neighborhood Husky dealer. Ask what they think the problem might be. You might be pleasantly surprised. Purchase some 2 cycle oil, a new chain, some bar oil, something. When time for a new saw remember how they treated you.

ARE YOU SURE THE KICK BACK BAR IS NOT ENGAGED , IF YOU HAVE PULLED IT BACK VIGOROUSLY AND STILL HAVE PROBLEM IT IS PROBABLY NOT ENGAGED , THEN THE NEXT BEST CK IS TO REMOVE THE BAR AND COVER ,LAY DOWN AS IT CAME OFF SO NO MIX UP IN RE-INSTALL WITH IT OFF SEE IF THE DRIVE GEAR IS TURNING IF SO PROBLEM COULD BE IN BAR , YOU MIGHT ALSO TRY TO LOOSEN THE CHAIN UP A WEE BIT AND SEE IF THIS HELPS , REMEMBER WEAR SAFETY GLASSES AND GLOVES AND STAY CLEAR OF ALL MOVING PARTS
