Question about HP LaserJet 3050 All-In-One Printer

2 Answers

For some time now there is a black line down the right hand side of the page. I suspect there is dirt on something, but have no access to the inside of the machine. Yesterday there were a few copies that had a very muted line, but after several copies it was as bold as before. It is consistent at about 1 inch from the right edge of the paper. I changed the toner in case there was something caught on it, but that didn't help.

Depending on when the line shows up, this will determine what needs to be done. First print out a report from the internal memory. Just press Setup then the right arrow until you see reports, then press ok then if it says demo page or whatever report is listed press ok again. If the printed out report is clean with no line then you need to clean your scanner "strip" glass. This glass is located under the operation panel on the bottom side. Just grab the operation panel right where the documents are fed in. Lift it up and look inside for the strip. It has a silver strip as par of the glass bar. Just clean this bar very well with a cloth that has a little glass cleaner sprayed on it. Once cleaned just close it back and make a copy to see if the line is gone.
Now if your initial printed out report from memory DOES have the line and since you have changed the toner with no change then the problem most likely is a fuser film going bad.
The most likely problem is the scanner glass, but the fuser film is also a possibility. Basically the scanner glass will only affect copies and outgoing faxes. PC print outs and received faxes would be fine.
The fuser film would affect PC Prints, Copies and Incoming Faxes. Outgoing Faxes and Scans would be fine.
Hope this helps.
Thank You for using Fixya.

This is almost for sure going to be a fuser fixing sleeve defect. I just repaired one of these the other day. An easy way to tell for sure is to print a page, and pull out the power cord when the page is halfway through the printer. Open the back and pull out the paper. More than likely you will see the defect on the portion of the page that has gone through the fuser (directly behind where the paper comes out, but not on the part that hasn't. This can be a reliable repair if done by an experienced tech. I usually charge $75 to do this on this model. Make sure if you get the repair done that the tech uses only a brand name fuser sleeve. If you are in the sacramento, ca area, I can repair it for you.

My HL2040 printer is printing black vertical lines along the right-hand side of the page, about 3" or so. A month ago I took it apart and cleaned the roller. Still doing it.

If the lines go all the way down the page, check the position of the corona wire cleaner tab (blue or green) at the top front of the drum unit. if not parked fully to one side it will create a solid black lines where it blocks the laser. Otherwise look for some other foreign object (or torn paper piece) that may be blocking the laser from the drum. If the lines are thin and shark, check for scratches on the drum (not repairable without replacing drum). If the lines are uneven thickness but in a pattern that repeats down the page every few inches, then the film on the drum is probably worn or wearing away and the drum needs to be replaced.

I have a grey/black line all the way down the right hand side of the page

Run a half test.
Put paper in the manual feed tray.
Print something, anything
When the paper is 1/2 way into the printer, open the cover.
Pull out the toner cartridge. Look down at the paper.
Does it have a black line on the right side?
If yes, replace the cartridge. If no, replace the fuser.

Fuju Xerox C525a not printing right edge

Clean the inside of the printer using the cleaning rod. See page 48 of the user manual.
Open front cover,
Pull out lever on the right side. This opens the access window cover on the right side of the printer.
Inside this access window is the cleaning rod handle. Pull it out and push it back in several times to clean printer.
When done push the rod back in and push the lever on the front right panel back in. Close the front cover and you're done.
Do this every time you replace the black toner.

Black lines down page

It must be the black pcu , the cleaning blade picks up dirt and causes these lines , it can also be the black developer giving you trouble , if you want be very carefull aand strip the pcu open you will see the lines only on the inside and not from outside , then you will know if it is developer or the cleaning blade

Non-printing gap/line down page

Hey Danzo, This error is usually caused by dirt (usually toner) on the laser lens. There should be a cleaner pad somewhere on your machine (though I am not totally familiar with Oki) that will wipe across the lens. If there is no pad, you may have to find access to the lens and wipe it manually with a tissue or similar
