Hi,

A possibility is that the antenna cable/plug is shorted. You can try verifying this with a continuity tester or simply unplug the antenna and stick a piece of insulated wire with the tip/end stripped into the antenna. Try the AM with the wire as the antenna. Just be carefully not go that far as the wire may reach the PCB/electronics.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

    Hi again richos,

The outside area of the antenna plug would definitely touch the body of
the CD/Tuner as it is the ground where the shielding of the cable is
soldered to. I was referring to the central point where the active wire
is soldered to and is connected to the exposed antenna element.

Another possibility to consider is the orientation/location of the vehicle/antenna (though unlikely).

As to the FM, it would still work (even if shorted) since it operates
on MHz (unlike AM in KHz). Some antennas for FM (exclusively) even have
a balun (coil) matching which is shorted when tested for continuity.

Have you tried the insulated wire?

I need the instruction/installation booklet for a Pioneer DEH-345 please!

I do not have a source for a free copy of the manual. However, Pioneer Electronics has the manuals available in their parts store: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/model.asp?modelNum=DEH345 . The direct link for the installation manual is: http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=CRD2484 ; it's $4.50 per copy. The owner's manual is $13.50 and the direct link is http://parts.pioneerelectronics.com/part.asp?productNum=CRD2483 .

I hope this helps.

Can a pioneer DEH-46DH super tuner be hooked up with subs? using its pre out?

Yes you can use the pre out to hook up an amp and subs. Probably the best way to send the signal to an amp to run the subs.
