Thanks for the thought, but have gone through all the control panel and device manager settings I know of. Audio is Conexant High Definition Audio, running latest driver (3.11.0.51) that I can find on Toshiba's website. All settings I can find are pushed to max.

My hunch is that this may be a codec issue, but I am not experienced in those.

Let me know if you have any other suggestions.

Perhaps you need to adjust the master settings through control panel, sounds?

I have a Toshiba satelite P105-s6114 and it is asking for a default password when I turn on... do you know what that password is or how I bypass???

Passwords are designed to keep people out!
default meants the password that was set by the owner. Initially there is no password. So someone has set one up.

The person who put the password in is the one who can open it. Sorry

No HD audio on Toshiba Satellite under Win XP Pro; Vista works OK

You almost have it correct. There is one more patch you must install before SP32646.

Read about kb888111.exe file from
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/888111/en-us

But kb888111.exe is not available at that link. It is here:
http://geekswithblogs.net/lorint/archive/2006/06/11/81540.aspx Then re-install Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture (UAA) Bus Driver for High Definition Audio (SP32646), and finally install the Conexant High Definition Audio Driver
