Question about Whirlpool Washing Machines

1 Answer

Top load Whirlpool Washer with failing lid switch. Spins if I push down on switch with screwdriver. Seems to be a worn or damaged switch, but can't determine which screws/fasteners to remove to be able to lift up top of machine to access/replace the switch. I can't find the instructions on this unit. Can you provide that portion of the manual or in general? I don't know the model number. It is my daughter's machine adn my granson is keeping it busy. GB

Washer will not spin r drain model whirlpool la7680xmwo

Sounds most likely a broken/defective lid switch. The lid switch on a top-load washer is a safety switch that detects whether the top-load washer lid is closed. The lid must be closed when the basket spins; some top-load models require that the washer lid be closed before the washer drive motor runs (thus no draining). If the lid switch isn't properly detecting whether the lid is closed replace the switch.

Washer will not spin dry

see the causes:
t doesn't pump or spin
frozen pulley or broken belt replace+lid switch open or defective replace
It pumps, but doesn't spin
lid switch defective, motor coupler defective, belt broken, clutch worn, drive motor defective, transmission is not shifting properly, the basket is worn.
It spins only with the lid closed
for safety, only sping with the lid closed.

Washer won't spin during rinse cycle. agitates fine during was cycle.

The lid switch is probably your culprit. the washer won't spin or drain if the lid switch is defective. Try pushing down on it with a pen or small screwdriver and see if it will spin then. There should be a slight clicking nois when it is activated, although it will sometimes click even though it is not working.

Washer stopping mid-cycle

Push down on lid. You may have a bad lid switch. Start machine and press the switch down with something like a screwdriver and see if the motor runs.

Shuts off in between rinse and spin cycle

check the lid switch. if it's loose, worn or broken washer won't drain/spin. try pushing down on the lid when it's stopped. switch is either on the right side visible with a small hole that a plastic activator on the lid itself or on some activated by the left hand rear hinge under the top and need the hinge tightened only..

Nothing happens after filling up

The missing pinis more than likely your problem.
Take a pencil or small screwdriver and insert into the lid switch hole and try the washer.
If it works, replace the lid pin.
If not, replace the lid pin AND the lid switch.

Whirlpool WTW5300 SQ Water leaking...Help!!

The water pump is the front and has probably failed.
REMOVE POWER
To access the pump, lift the console by one of three ways.
1. Look in the back of the console, in each corner there will be a screw, unscrew until the console can be pushed forward.
2. The trim on either side can be pried off from the top, grasp and pull forward to expose to expose a screw.
3. Insert a putty knife under each corner, push to release a latch. With console lifted:

1. You will find a lid switch connector (white or gray in color). Unplug the switch from the connector.

2. There will be two brass colored clips. Place a flat blade screwdriver straight down into the opening on top of the washer and into the groove of the clip. Push the screwdriver down and away from you and the clip will release.

3. Open the lid of the washer and place your hand under the front rim of the opening (DO NOT grab the wash tub). Tilt and slide cabinet forward to remove.

The pump is mounted to the motor with two spring clips. Look at the face of the pump for any signs of melting or blistering. (grey bubbling)

Whirlpool AWZ412 wont spin seems to do everything else have tried with an empty machine but still no spin

The first thing to fail on a washer is the lid safety switch. It's right under the top, a little tab on the lid pushes it. Lift the top, check the switch. To test it: temporarily connect the two wires to it together. If the machine spins, replace the switch.
