Question about Mitsubishi WS-55613 55" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Mitsubishi Medallion Integrated 1080 Model 55613. We have a good picture for about 3 mintues then a series of vertical wavy lines appear. Once this starts, the lines do not go away. I have reset the TV and that did not help. We isolated it to the function of the TV versus Direct TV. What are your thoughts.

We have scheduled a technician. The tech told us that this model is only about 1/2 way into its intended life and well worth repairing.

According to the authorized repair service we are using, this Mitsubishi model WS 55613 is only half way into its life expectancy and well worth repairing. This set is designed for heavy use and the repair estimate is less than we expected by a lot.

It is either the main board in the TV itself going bad, or the picture tubes starting to go bad, both of these things can cause the exact problem you describe. Regardless though it is an indication of major hardware failure, there is no simple reset for this. You will need to contact a local TV repair person in your area. If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it is definitely a failing part in the TV...

Thanks
Tim

1. "wavy" may mean a signal problem inside the set--are you seeing colors out of position or skewed around letters etc?

2. Does it do it when a DVD is played? (this will rule out certain things).

Model # ws-55613, a short time after the tv turns on there are wavy vertical lines that wont go away. if i turn off the tv and restart it will work for a short time and wavy lines will reappear.

The WS Mitsubishi has a known problem with the Power Supply electrolytic capacitors and the electrolytic caps on the DM board. See my tip at http://www.fixya.com/support/r7065906-mitsubishi_turn_flashing_power_timer for more detailed information. The problem you are describing would be the first part of the known problem. There are several repair/replacement choices listed in my tip.

Thanks for using FixYa and for the great rating.

Mitsubishi Medallion - The green convergence

The most likely cause is shorted convergence chips and possibly a few pico fuses.

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony,Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get a convergenece repair kit with instructions from the links below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

Problem #1) Convergence

Yours may have one or more of the following symptoms...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2
Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

You can see some more examples and find a fix herebb0cf99.pnghttp://www.fixya.com/support/r2861467-solution_video_looking_whiteish_dull
