Do you hapen to know the part number? or what does PDP stand for?

  • bryan749 Sep 29, 2010

    Hummm,
The story of this tv is that it worked for about two days, and then quit. the credit card company replaced it and the old owner gave it to me. I was hoping that one of the PCBs was bad, but you feel that the display itself is shot- this makes it parts is my guess. Nothing obviously burnt, and i was only able to check the labled voltaes on the power boards. Is there a way to Verify the PDP is the issue? are there scamitics available? What goes wrong with the PDPs?
I know lots of questions, thank you for your support- I will be using your service more now.

Almost always this is a failed PDP that causes this, and I think that is the case in your situation. Since all boards check out, it is able to sustain power since you get sound, it must almost certainly be a failed PDP. If it were me I would contact a local TV repair person in your area. If you think it may still be under warranty please contact the manufacturer to file an RMA. If you happened to purchase the TV with a major credit card (not a debit card) there is a good chance it may still be under the free extended warranty most credit cards place on electronics. Please contact your credit card company to inquire if they do this, and they will be able to file the claim and get you a refund for the TV.

So sorry that I don't have better news but it sounds for sure like a bad PDP

Thanks
Tim

No worries whatsoever, I am trying to get the PDP information now, can't seem to find one anywhere available online. Oh man, I am sure the credit card company sent a technician to look at it first, they almost always try to repair the issue before replacement. If the repair person deems it is over half the value of the TV to repair they will just replace, which is a very bad sign for you indeed. Unfortunately in the shop we would just swap in a replacement PDP and verify that it works, if it doesn't then move on to the next part. It is very difficult to say what else could be the problem, I am quite sure it's the PDP. Also Samsung is very protective over their schematics and won't release them online. You can request it directly from Samsung though, give them a call at 800-726-7864 and request the schematic / service manual.

    Thanks
    Tim

A TV repair shop is your best bet - the problem is likely the power supply - check the fuse.

I have a samsung Hp s5053 and My TV is making this clicking sound and turning on and off. How can I Fix this ?

Any time you have this issues the power supply needs to be replace. Look for the number on the board it should be the biggest board on the TV. Google it and it very simple to replace.

Thank you

It appears that the Main bd is bad. Try using Component cables instead of the HDMI cables and see if there is a change. If there is a change to normal picture then try another HDMI cable. If the problem returns then replace the Main bd. There three Main bds for this basic model number. You will need the version# found on the right side of the set to order the correct bd.

I had the same problem and had the TV serviced and found that the y board was blown $350 total. The repair guy explained that the board has a hot transister underneath that slowly leaked onto the board, but says that they can not get Samsung to admit to the problem. Works fine now but only have a 90 day warrenty on the parts.

Try to adjust the Vscan or/and Vs down about 5-10V on the Power Supply board. If you got extended warranty, just let the warranty depot shop help you to do it.

For the "humming" noise, may need to replace the Power Supply board to fix it.

Plasma TV picture problem

Normallly, if the format button on the remote for the television does not achieve the desired affect, then, a cable box or a satelite box is where the change needs to be made. For example: A Motorola Cable box needs to be set up to go to a wide screen when an analog signal is detected. It's difficult to determine the repair without knowing the hook up of the peripherals. Hope this helps.
