Topo map purchase for a magellan gps

I purchased a topo map for ontario canada from mapsend website and downloaded it to my explorist 500 le....everything there is fine....my question is this....my friend bought the exact same gps and i thought i would be able to put that map onto his unit....but it says a map security error...does this mean it was a one time download?.. and will it only load onto my unit?

I bought a Magellan XL and then added an SD card with Topo maps installed. I lost the unit with the maps inside... I bought a new unit and thought that I would be able to copy the maps from my PC over to a new SD card, but I got the same message.

So I called Next Destination, the Magellan distributer here in Australia, who basically told me it was tough luck and that if the insurance company was not going to pay for it I had to fork out $400 for another card. Of course the insurance company is not going to fork out for software and despite the rep claiming that it was a piece of hardware, it is hard to argue that a 512mb card's hardware value is $400.

You would have thought that they would be able to charge a small fee for a new card if you had proof of purachase in such instances, but nope.

The problem is the software you download is fixed to the serial number. I have a similar issue with the exception that the original unit I purchased died and had to be replaced. Now I am getting the run around on receiving new software fixed with the new unit serial number. What a joke Magellan is, I will never purchase another product from them.

exact same problem. The unit I purchased died and the topo map of Ontario that I bought will not work on replacement unit. Five calls and 3 emails later and Magellan still will not transfer the map to the replacement unit

I have an Explorist 500LE I thought I would get around all the problems with Magellan map send and just buy the Magellan Topo Maps Canada SD card.

Well it seems that the clever people at Magellan have made this difficult as well. The SD card comes up with the same security errors as the map send program.

I understand that it is necessary to put in some type of protection, but this is just BS. I am technically literate and followed all the directions on the SD card package, the GPS was new from the box.

The information below was sent to me from Magellan support, What it sounds like to me is that you can only have one unit serial number tied to the software on your pc at a time. I haven't tried it so I can't confirm that it works, but it may be worth giving it a try. Hello, I understand that your wanting information on the compatibility of your Explorist 500 LE with your Topo Canada disk. Yes, your unit is compatible. You should get three attempts to change the serial number in MapSend Manager to link the maps with your Explorist. If you've already used the maps with three other serial numbers the program won't allow you to change it again, it will stay linked to the third serial number used. To change the serial number open MapSend Manager, go to User Profile - Edit - change. Have the unit plugged in then click Detect ID to change the serial number. (Note: MapSend will automatically drop the first and last number of the serial number, that's okay) I hope that this information was helpful. If you have any additional questions, you can contact us at the below number to speak with a representative. We'll be more than happy to help you out! Thanks! Angela

The Program for Sea Charts you are looking for is called, Bluenav xl3. Here is the information about these charts:

Note: You cannot combine MapSend BlueNav charts with any other MapSend applications on the same card and you will need a Secure Digital card reader/writer and you will need to be familiar with saving and renaming files on the reader.

Magellan Triton 500 value bundle

magellan has a big problem in the past with the Canada Value Pack. It did not work with the Triton. It was only made to work with the older Magellan GPS units.

Best to contact Magellan and see if they will give you a new one.

Ciao

Loading Topo maps...210 says invalid base map??

To get the base map and to get your unit functioning again:
Install the firmware again:

Go to: http://www.magellangps.com/support/product.asp?prodid=1114

Or, if this doesn´t work, go to www.magellangps.com, click on"support", click on "legacy products" (left) and click on "eXplorist210 Europe" (do NOT click on "eXplorist 210 North America")

On this page click under Updates/Upgrades on "version 2.57", and follow the instructions. You will have to register your GPS, register it under a European country.

After you have installed the firmware you will have the basemap and some new windows on the GPS. Good luck and enjoy!

Reinstalling magellan road 800 on pc with out cd

You can download Magellan MapSend and/or VantagePoint from their website for free and reinstall on your computer:
http://www.magellangps.com/products/software.asp

These will let your computer talk to your GPS again.

If you need to reinstall maps, though, you can't get a new CD for free. You would have to start a customer support case with Magellan and provide proof of purchase.
