Question about Magellan eXplorist 500 GPS Receiver
I purchased a topo map for ontario canada from mapsend website and downloaded it to my explorist 500 le....everything there is fine....my question is this....my friend bought the exact same gps and i thought i would be able to put that map onto his unit....but it says a map security error...does this mean it was a one time download?.. and will it only load onto my unit?
The information below was sent to me from Magellan support, What it sounds like to me is that you can only have one unit serial number tied to the software on your pc at a time. I haven't tried it so I can't confirm that it works, but it may be worth giving it a try.
I understand that your wanting information on the compatibility of your Explorist 500 LE with your Topo Canada disk. Yes, your unit is compatible. You should get three attempts to change the serial number in MapSend Manager to link the maps with your Explorist. If you've already used the maps with three other serial numbers the program won't allow you to change it again, it will stay linked to the third serial number used.
To change the serial number open MapSend Manager, go to User Profile - Edit - change. Have the unit plugged in then click Detect ID to change the serial number. (Note: MapSend will automatically drop the first and last number of the serial number, that's okay)
