there is a little square at the top right corner of the screen. when you first turn it on, press that square to see the satelites it has locked on to, once a few of those turn green (meaning you are locked on by sattelites) see if the map starts workign again. Mine did the same thing and i thought is was broken, but depending on where you are, it can take up to 10 minutes for the map to start working (as it need that astelites to tell it where it is and what is around it) get it? so just try waiting before you put in a destination.
When you change geographical locations with any GPS it will take a lot longer for the GPS to acquire the sattelites. Hold the GPS out in an unobstructed area and switch it on. Be patient it will acqurie the signals if it was working before you left home.
The problem is the government made changes to the WAAS satelites. When the GPS tries to find the sattelites, it can't lock on and goes into an error mode and locks up.To eliminate the problem disable the WAAS which can be done when starting the unit. Then go online and download the 3.70 firmware version and load it into your unit. This will correct the system to function with the newer WAAS system. After installing the 3.70 software then you can enable the WAAS function.
Sounds like the aerial. There is a very fine wire in the center of the male aerial plug. If this is bent then you will have that problem. Aerials are hard to get, dealers say they are obsolete...update your model. Cheers, Peter
Have you tried a Master Reset? It may help, but it WILL ERASE ALL OF YOUR FAVORITES. To do a Master Reset, turn the unit off. Press and hold the bottom right of the screen, then press and release the power button. Keep pressing the screen until the unit asks if you are sure you want to reset. Follow the prompts.
10-15 minutes is normal. Did you take it outside? GPS doesn't work indoors. Try in an open field, no trees. Should lock in a few minutes. I always do the following: i key in the destination address at home, then put it under 'favourites". When i start driving, i put the unit in my car and look up the recently added favourite. The unit then has enough time to lock on to the satellites.
