Question about Philips 55P8341 55" Rear Projection Television

Bulb for Philips LCOS

Is there anywhere I can get a new bulb without having to spend a fortune? I haven't found one for less than a hundred and thirty bucks. Maybe I am missing something here, but it doesn't seem like there should be all that much difference between these and a headlight.

Darn! I was afraid that would be the case. Thanks for the info though. I guess I should consider myself lucky to have found that price. Does anyone know why these things are so expensive? It just doesn't make sense to me.

$130 is a relative bargain - usually $450-$750 range - almost the entire cost of a projection TV is the bulb

On off light flashes get no picture

it needs a new bulb for the screen. The bulb is using too much current, and is tripping the internal circuit breaker. This is common, and nothing to worry about. Bulbs for the television range anywhere from 30 dollars on up to hundreds. I'd contact a local TV repair shop for assistance. (Yes they still exist!) Some may even have used bulbs that are still in good working order for cheaper. It's a roll of the dice to see if they have one that is compatible though. If the TV was still working fine before this, it's usually worth fixing.

Power light glows orange for a minute then shuts down without ever having a picture or sound. I have replaced the lamp and clean the filters. This is a Philips Cineos Lcos 62 inch.

Watch at turn on to see if lamp fires up for even a second or two--if not either a ballast or the control that turns it on has detected another issue and is not allowing the lamp to come on.

MY TV TURNS ON AND STAYS ON FOR 5SECONDS AND THEN THE SCREEN TURNS BLACK BUT CAN STILL HEAR THE SHOW PLAYING. TURNED IT OFF AND EVEN UNPLUGGED IT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES, BUT STILL THE SAME THING HAPPENS.

the lamp is likely bad .. they only work a few thousand hours .. then must be replaced .. your lamp can cost a couple of hundred (maybe even more if bought locally) .. here is one for less if you have someone handy that can change it.......

..... of course make sure power is off (unplugged) and make sure things are not hot .. there is usually a little cubby in the back where the lamp is located .. you an see what the lamp looks like at the above URL .. dont get finger prints on the bulb . that will cause it to crack when hot .. if you are unable to change the bulb then a call to philips service should do the trick. make sure you ask what the bulb replacement and labor will cost ..

Your bulb is burned out. I have had the same problem. It seems this television has an overheating problem--and short bulb life. I have had our 50 Magnavox dlp for two years and just put in the second bulb before Christmas. You can buy the bulb from a dealer on ebay for $99 and install it yourself. I is not in the housing so you have to carefully take out 4 screws and replace the bulb without touching the face of the bulb. To buy the one from Magnavox with the housing is much more expensive. I think the first time my husband replaced the bulb it took about 45 minutes--this time it took about 20.
