Question about AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ Dual Core Processor - Socket 939 (AMDX23800)

1 Answer

Had a virus and loaded Norton 360. Got rid of the virus but the system just hangs at times. Initially had a dll problem but that went away. I know the system is old but I have a lot of work on it. Do I need more RAM and if so where is a good place to purchase it and how do I install it I have run registry fix from Norton, run virus scans, did defrag etc Larry

If the system is old then u may need to wipe ur disk clean and install OS again....
bakup all data and let me know...if u want to get ur machine factory fit and as good as new....revert back...i have a foolproff solution...and u will be happy for it....u dont need any hardware change....just need to wipe ur disk clean...i.e. make all sectors and tracks in the DISK back to 00000 as it was when it was mfd.... Norton will not remove all malwares/trojens/virus....believe me...
regards....
PS - what OS are u using ??

Try start up in Safe Mode press F8. Choose Safe Mode, when at the choice window, to select either Safe Mode Desktop, OR, System Restore, choose System Restore and choose a time before you had the "Problem" and got the Virus, and follow instructions. This should get you back to the time prior to opening the attachment and unleashing the virus. If this doesn't work. please let me know.

Norton 360

Yes, and there's little you can do about. None of the commercial packages is 100% perfect all the time, the malware writers try to stay one step ahead.

Hi !
I think easiest way to get over the problem is to uninstall 360 and reinstall it. You can use Reveo uninstaller(Free software) to uninstall it will give you chance to get rid of registery entries for 360. Use moderate settings.
you can download software from following URLhttp://www.revouninstaller.com/uninstaller_help_page.html

Hope this helps.
Thanks!

Cannot launch my Norton 360 to perform scan

Boot in safe mode and try to run virus software.
If you can remove hard drive? find another hard drive that has a system with virus software, and make your drive the secondary drive and run virus software.
Usually your virus cd boots or lets you make a boot floppy, when booted run virus software.
Have a nice day

Norton 360 don't work

Currently Symantec is a company that needs to rediscover its sole purpose. You can do MUCH better than Norton, especially Norton 360. It says a lot about a company when they have to make a new tool to get rid of their product which is supposed to, "defend" you.

What I suggest is that you somehow get a refund. Next, remove norton with the Norton Removal Tool. Then go get ESET Smart Security. ESET makes the BEST anti-virus software at the time being and is a much better decision. It also uses less system resources while doing more to defend your system.

Sorry you got caught in the Symantec web. It stinks, big time! I know, I've been there. NOD32 (Or Smart Security, depending on what you think you need) is definitely a better choice.

If your looking for a good virus program, use Avast or AVG , they are free to use and won't drain your system.

You also didn't say what the .dll problem was from, so guessing it was a bad Norton install.
