Hello, When I press the power button for my Sony KP-53HS30, I get no picture, but can hear audio for about 5 seconds before it turns itself off. The status light blinks red 8 times over and over, with pauses in between each set of 8. Please help!

Re: Status light blinking
Your flyback is bad on the D board thats what makes the led blink 8 times replace the flyback and you should be fine. If you need a link on where to get the flyback and instructions on how to change it let me know and I will post a link

Does it blink a certain amount of blinks pause a second or just blink constantly with no pauses? Let me know it will blink a code if its going into protected shutdown. And it will blink constantly for another reason.
I've had a KP 53HS10 for close to 8 years I think. 4 years ago the picture started blinking after long use, then more and more often. I had a repairman come and replace the tuner card (that's all I know about what he did). Now that I finally have HD from cable, I've found that 720 doesn't work and 1080i works, but the picture blinks on and off apparently struggling with some inner problems. Everything looks great, for a second and then it blinks. The red light blinks 5 times repeatedly while this is going on. I called SONY 5 times means get a repair man. I searching forms like this for help as well.
* Eight blinks - Problem with the audio (AUDIO), unit goes to standby and blinks the self-diagnosis code. Check IC406 audio amp, PS401, and 402. On some newer models of Sony TV sets, this code means that T8005 is defective on the D board. That would be the fly back transformer and the horizontal output transistor.
