I cant locate the defrost timer on my amana AFD2535FES. my freezer is cold but the fridge isn't

Hello,
That model refrig. does not use older style parts sorry their is no defrost timer. What is uses is a control board to turn on the defrost cycle. Before replacing the defrost control board check the defrost heater and thermostat first. Check both defrost heater and defrost thermostat first using a meter to check continuty on both of them. If either the defrost heater or t-stat dont hav econtinuty they will be the problem. If both check good the control should be replaced. These pictures show where the defrost heater and thermostat are while or model will look different the location of them will be very similar RMOSTAT IT MUST BE COLD SO CHECK IT WHILE FROST IS BUILT UP AROUND IT.oldtech2332_11.jpgoldtech2332_12.jpg

Where is the thermostat located

Hi,

Your engine must be cold before removing the thermostat.

Find the location of your thermostat by following the rubber hose located on bottom of your radiator (passenger side) to the point where it attaches to the engine. Remove the two bolts at that location and you'll find your thermostat nestled in there.

Be sure to place a pail under the car to contain the coolant.

Thermostat Operation:

00047_thermostat.jpgThe automotive thermostat is a temperature controlled on and off valve. When the temperature rises to a predetermined temperature, the thermostat opens up to allow the engine coolant to flow through the cylinder block and the radiator. This flow is crucial to maintain optimum operating temperature for fuel efficiency, enhanced driveability, and engine protection. The coolant flow is reduced when the engine is cold, and the flow is increased when the engine is hot. Contrary to popular opinion, operating the vehicle without the thermostat doesn't make the engine run cooler. It will actually run hotter because there isn't a thermostat to slow the coolant flow. This means the coolant doesn't stay in the radiator long enough to dissipate its heat.

All the best

Seems to be constantly running. refridgerator section too cold, with items freezing.

it could be 1 of 3 things,1st: the ptc overload on the compressor has welded together and cant cycle on and off/2nd:the cold control is defective, this component is the part you set the units temperature with/3rd:your damper vent door located between the freezer and refrigerator compartments could have frozen open from condensation and cant close to keep the cold out of the refrigerator after the refrige is cool enough, this is behind a plastic grille in the refrigerator and brings in cool air from the freezer

Not cold in the fridge part top freezer seem ok.

Good day,
One of 2 problems.
1. The fan motor in the freezer compartment is not running. While the machine is running, open the freezer door. You should hear the fan motor running.
If not, then remove the rear panel in the freezer section, and inspect and replace the motor if needed.
2. The defrost system failed.
When opening the freezer door, look at the rear panel. If you see the beginning of a frost build up on the panel, the defrost system has failed.

The defrost system is made up of 3 parts. The main heater, which is located behind the rear panel in the freezer panel.
The defrost thermostat which is a small round device clipped to the top of the evaporator coil, and once again, is located behind the rear freezer panel.
The timer, which is located in the fresh food compartment on the top underneath and behind control panel.
You will need an ohm meter to test the main heater for continuity, and the defrost thermostat as well.
The timer can be checked by using a small screw driver and turning the advance shaft clockwise until the machine shuts off.
Wait 35 minutes. If the machine turns itself back on, the timer is good. If not, it is bad, and needs replaced.

Here is an excellent tutorial to explain the system.

Ge profile Ps27sgra refrigerator and freezef are

Hi, this problem is going to be with the running thermostat2.gif (cold Control). It has gone bad and stays open which in turn will keep the compressor running continually and will cause the fridge2.gif to get colder and freeze food. It can normally be located in the control panel inside the fridge (it is the control that has wires, the other is the damper). Locate the thermostat and replace it. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again. Good Luck!! Mike

The refrigerator ignores temperature setting.

Hello, This problem is going to be the cold control/thermostat, this part can be located in the control console inside the fridge bhind the freezer temp control knob (can also be found sometimes in the freezer depending on type/model) The reason your food in the fridge is freezing is because the thermostat controling the freezer temp is not shutting down and the air being blown into the fridge is too cold. Replace this cold control/thermostat and you should be fixed. If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again and give me some time to respond. Good luck! Mike

Fridgedaire frt22rha wont stop running

your problem is with the cold control, it is either a thermostat located in the panel inside the refridgerator, or it is built into a control board located inside a panel rear of refridg...the cold control has got stuck open which is why it is constantly running. replace the control and you should be good to go. Hope this helps, If you have any other questions or concerns please feel free to comment again - please do not forget to rate my solution...Good Luck!
