Question about Roper RT21SKXLQ Top Freezer Refrigerator

1 Answer

2 problems Ok, I have 2 problems with my fridge. I guess it started a day or two ago. The freezer is frosting over if that makes sense. And the fridge is not getting cold enough. It's not hot but it's not where it normally is either. I thought maybe my 5 yr old left the door open over night, slightly cracked if you will. But my husband and I both noticed even after we made sure it was closed it wasn't improving. There doesn't seem to be condensation on any of the food or drinks. And I guess I should say there are actually 3 problems. It's also leaving a puddle of water on the floor in front of the fridge. water is gathering under the veggie and fruit drawers. What is causing this to happen? And how do we stop it? I would greatly appreciate some expert advice! Thanks, Mel

Freezer frosts over and refrigerator cools very little.

I'm having the same problem. Water is coming from the top of the fridge and overflowing under the veggie drawers. Does anyone know the cause or how to fix this or if I have to call for service? All I have done so far is keep cleaning up after it.

Mine leaks water from the freezer into the fridge. Some of the water lands on a shelf at which point it turns to ice or ends up under the veggie drawers. If you open one of the veggie drawers you will have water in the floor. Mine is doing this so bad that it actually freezes the food in my fridge. I have thrown out tons of food over time. The first repair guy said to remove the bottom plate in the freezer and pour hot water down the drain wholes to clean it out. After doing this it went right back to the same old problem with in a few days. I lived with it for about two years. I just now called a repair guy and they said Ropers have trouble with the draining. New fridge coming soon.

Mel,

That's a great question, that I would like to have an answer too. I'm having the same problem and can't figure it out. I had it off for about a year and now it doesn't want to cool like it should.

I bought a hisense fridge a month ago, it was Ok when we connected just for couple of days, I turned the temperature up a bit so the freezer can be colder, but now

Hisense is a company that makes cheap budget end televisions. Sounds like the defrost timer may have failed. The cold is created at the rear of the freezer and cold air is vented to the fridge. Have it looked at under warranty.

Freezer stays cold but fridge has been warm. I turn the thermostat to off for a day and then everything is ok for a week. Sounds like the fan is frozen solid when fridge doesn't work( no sound) Th

If there is no cooling at all on the fridge section but the freezer works then it is confirmed that the compressor and gas pressure is OK. Now shut off the fridge and leave it powered off while you clean and check the evaporator for frost. If frost is seen it is a good indication as the compressor is working with sufficient gas within.
Now after about 6 hours plug in the fridge to start. Observe cooling to happen in about one hour and ice to from under three hours.
Earlier make sure that the thermostat was set to normal mode for freezer and fridge.
However if ice forms in the freezer then observe the fridge for about 24 hours for cooling to continue and the fridge to cut off . If not the auto defrost timer, or the thermostat must be checked. Frost formation without defrosting could block the air flow and so shut the air passage to the fridge. Also the blower fan must work and if this is not working then the fan can be faulty. Also a fault on the control unit is a suspect to non functioning of any one of these components.
If defrost timer works but frost keeps forming check while the compressor shuts if the heaters are working, check continuity of the heaters.
So try this test using a multi-meter on the defrost timer and the thermostat and make your observations so that we come to the solution.

Why are only drawers in fridge cold & not making ice?

Contact a professional. Sounds like either your damper door is not operating correctly and not letting enough cool air from the freezer enter, or there is an air leak that is making ice form .

Refrigerator stopped cooling. As close as I can tell the fan in the freezer part was frosted up for a length of time and has possibly ruined the fridges cooling fan? Kenmore model 106 freezer on top.

If the fan in the freezer stops, then coll air from freezer will not pass from freezer section to fridge section. In that case, the freezer section will get over frosted but fridge section will not get cold, because cool air will not pass from freezer to fridge. The fan is there for two things, 1) for cooling the heating evaporator coil and 2) For flowing the cool air from freezer to fridge.---------- If the frost is getting collected and fan is getting stuck up in frost, then this is the problem. The defrost cycle is not running, the cooling cycle is running.---------------
This problem is called defrost problem.-------------

So first thing you try is , perform, manual defrost reset procedure.---------

The manual defrost reset procedure is as follows : ----
First unplug the unit from main power outlet. Then empty whole unit completely. Then keep both the doors open. Wait for 24 hours. All the ice collected on the coils and in the freezer section will get melted. Clean the water from the sections. Then Connect the power cord of the unit to main power outlet after 24 hours/.Then set the temperature to normal in both fridge and freezer section. Then check,if same frost is getting collected, then its defrost problem,. If it's again building up ice that means the unit is not defrosting. It's starting the cooling procedure, and then while defrosting, it's not working. The defrost assembly consists of three main parts. The defrost thermostat, the defrost heater and defrost board. Any of the one is not functioning. When thermostat sense the maximum cooling, it triggers the defrost heater to start heating and this defrosts the ice collected on the coils and the system works. Both thermostat and heater are controlled by defrost board. First the thermostat and defrost heater to be checked, if both check ok by meter and visually, then its defrost board causing the problem. You can get required parts from from online sites like: --- www.repairclinic.com or from searspartsdirect online site. --------- This should help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Sounds like a defrost problem, is there ice on the back wall of the freezer? If so the defrost system has failed. The most common repair is a Part# 67004757 defrost thermostat and adaptive defrost board Part# 67004704. Even with the parts in your hand, you will need to de-ice the freezer to replace the thermostat in the freezer section, then unplug unit to replace the adaptive defrost board located in the controls of the refrigerator section. Normally it can take about an hour to complete.
Good Luck

Frigidaire plht189sska top freezer fridge problem. Freezer is cold, fridge is warm. About a month ago, had the problem of frost build up in freezer, water pooling under veggie bins, warm fridge. ...

If the defrost heating element, defrost timer or evaporater fan weren't working, you'd develop a block of ice on the evaporator. Is the compressor running? If it is, it might have bad valves from the frost buildup scenario. Liquid refrigerant could have gotten to the suction valves. The sealed system should have a five year warranty. Might be time to call a pro

Ok the freezer section works the refrig section think of the refrigerator as a large cooler with an inlet and outlet hole cold air is blown into the refrig from the freezer via the fan motor in the freezer the really cold air comes in the top of the refrig and drops to the bottom of the refrig then it is sucked back into the freezer thru a vent hole in the bottom of the refrigerator ..GOT IT?? Now when a unit has a defrost problem there is an ice or frost build up in the freezer on the coil (bad heater, bad bi metal, bad timer can cause this) the ice builds and builds to the point where it blocks the air flow across the coil hence the air can not get to the refrigerator section making it warmer but the freezer section will work ok .. I hope this makes sense...Hint : A sign of this is a lg frost buildup on the back wall of the freezer.
