I have the same issue, the speakers have a soft hiss on the unit it powered on. but no controls or screen

  • Anonymous Aug 21, 2008

The original poster did mean Icebox. These were units made by Icebox LLC (no defunct) and Salton under the brand Beyond. I have a WBIBFS4S that has just developed the same symptoms - won't boot and instead a repeatable electronic hissing comes through the speakers.

Very sad this product is no longer produced.

    Any troubleshooting would be appreciated.

I have exactly the same problem as the rest of you have described so it seems to be a common and consistent failure for these units. Now if someone just knew how to fix it????

  • missusf Sep 29, 2008

This just happened to me as well. It happened after a power outage, just never came back on. I presume electrical? Anybody got a solution yet? Or a replacement idea?

I have the same problem, I've owned the unit for 2 years. Today I turned it on, it kept saying "Loading" then screen would go blank. I tried turning it off in the back and unplugging, but when it started up again there was a hissing coming from the speakers. Has anyone found a solution? Or a least someone to fix this?

  • svtdude99 Nov 26, 2008

Very similar problem, the green LED just blinks slowely and then fast. I was just wondering if there was a way of getting the original installation image for the device and just re-flash it, question is where to get it.

  • dannyfresh Dec 06, 2008

svtdude99 is correct in stating that some sort of boot disc is needed. I you notice, at least on the countertop model, when the unit is first plugged in the cd/dvd drive activates for a few seconds. This is the unit looking for a boot disc, the same way your pc does. Its like a extra measure in case the flashed system fails.

I had the same problem occur 5 weeks ago, power flicked, and the ice box died!  The speakers just hiss and nothing is on the screen and the light indicator is amber.  Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Just wanted to add my confirmation of this problem...Amber light, speaker hiss, no boot, no display. Had a local computer repair shop look at it and they said today that it is definitely NOT the power supply, but they couldn't do anything else, as it's all proprietary. The current distributer is Dacor Appliances, but as someone said, they refuse to work on the Salton boxes, even though they are identical.

I also have had this problem on and off for 2 1/2 years. Amber light, hissing sound in speakers, no boot. It usually happens after a power outage or upon reset or DVD hang. Sometimes after multiple plug in attempts (usually after a few days), it will boot and will work until the next power outage or hang.

Today, I loaded up a DVD and the system hung on "loading disc". Having to turn it off and on to get it to reset, I ended up with the big problem again.

My icebox is frozen as well after a power surge.Just have an amber led light. Was told the mother board fried. This particular company that took over Salton products, and icebox t.v.,told me as well, that they are only doing warranty repair work, and that the unit is basically garbage.Or as the tech had the balls to say to me,"it has used it's shelf life".Is there anything i can do in regards to this??Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

My Dell Dimension locks up when starting with the 1 & 2 lights on and in the booting up page before windows .I am told the motherboard is stuffed .Is this the case and if so are replacement...

If your Dell hangs up with the 1 and 2 lights on, that indicates an PCI expansion card problem. I don't know what cards your computer has , but try removing all cards except the video card and see if the computer will boot.
Here is a link to the owners manual, and explaination of all lites. Your computer has an odd case and motherboard, and would be expensive to find a replacement.

My Icebox computer will not start up properly. When I turn the power on, it simply hums like an old television with no signal.

Hello,if your computer is old and the noise is low frequency but very disturbing and sometimes gets louder and then lows then is your power supply and you must change it.If the noise is more high pitch and it doesn't change frequency then should be the graphic card.If its like scratching noise is the hard drive. You must figure out exactly where the noise is coming from before replace anything

I've had my Icebox for 2 1/2 years. Can't log on to internet.

I do not fully understand your problem I think you are trying to connect a wireless connection from a router to computer if that is the case you need to do this with a USB lead to establish your settings and once the connection is established then you can shift the computer

Keep getting boot disk failure

Don't expect a lot of help from HP; I refuse to work on them any more.
This problem (in my estimation) can likely come from one of two sources;
- A failed hard drive whose boot sector is not readable (see below)

- An infection of the boot sector - This may require a reformat of the drive.
Most of the popular AV programs can provide scanning for this kind of problem that does not depend on Windows starting at all.

You need to do a thorough test of the hard drive booting from a CD or DVD.
One well-known program that uses FreeDos as its boot source is SpinRite.
I used it professionally for years and found very little to complain about.

Take a look:

BTW, I don't know Steve Gibson and own no stock in GRC!
