Hooked two rca jacks out the back of my pioneer deh-p400 thinking that they may be the aux out jacks. This did not work when I plugged my mp3 player in using the headphone jack. I am unable to locate any manuels for this deck presently. This unit has an aux option as a source. How can I hook up mp3, ipod, etc player using the headphoe jack.

Re: trying to hook up mp3 player
They are out jacks and you need to run the rcas to an amp and then run your speakers off the amp your mp3 player should work when you plug it in the front and press source aux unless the front jack is an out only

How did you "connect" an Ipod to the receiver? If you plugged in RCAs then you were probably plugging into the pre-amp outputs of the stereo. There is an aux option from pioneer (CDRB10) which plugs into the blue squarish plug on the back. I think its a CDRB20 if you ever wanted to add a CD changer as well.
This is different on every stereo, but generally the RCA ports in the back of the stereo are labeled "Aux" or something to that extent.
First, you must purchase a headphone jack to RCA cable which can connect to both your stereo and your ipod.
Connect the cable, turn your ipod on and start playing a song. Turn the volume on the stereo to a moderate volume so you can hear when the song is being played through your stereo. Then, using the selector switch, turn the stereo from "Radio" to "Aux" or whatever it says next to the the RCA plug ins on the back.
There is either a headphone size jack on the back labeled aux or a blue square plug. If it is the headphone jack then you need a 3.5mm to 3.5mm cable. But if I remember right you have the blue plug and need to buy the auxillary adapter. Then you need a 3.5mm to rca cable. The outputs are only outputs not inputs. Turning the Aux on in the menu does bring it under Source now.
Sorry, but I don't think you can use the rca's for an aux-in. I bought a deh-10 new and there is nothing in the owners manual that even mentions useing the rca's for an aux-in.
Used it long enough to opperate it in the dark and nothing in the setup menues for changing those rca's from outs to ins.
push and hold the function button with the radio off but with the vehicles key on, it will take several seconds but it will beep and give you access to change several things including toe aux off and on hope this helps!
You want to run the RCA's from your cd player to the amplifier. You want to run your front speakers off the speaker wires. I believe that is what you are asking.
Do you happen to have an after-market wiring harness for that cd player? That will save you a lot of problems! You can go to walmart and get one in most cases. Just look on the back and look for the model of the vehicle you need it for.
