If you have a security suite, you may need to permit access thru the firewall to the IP addy assigned to the printer.

Also as a diagnostic measure, I would connect a USB cable to the printer to make sure the drivers are correct on the printer.

After those steps were accomplished, I would check my router's log to see if the printer registered with it.

good luck and don't forget to vote!!!

I can't get the printer on the wireless network because something is wrong with the wep password, I have a newer apple wireless router but it wont let me get past the password part.

Verify the router is set for wep and that you give it the correct info. numbers 0 through 9 and A through F so putting a password of password will not work.

Try something like 1423DDA244.

Beter Yet:

Set the router for WPA2 mode and then you can have the password of your choise and a more succure connection.

BROTHER MFC-6490CW won't connect to wireless router

Having the same issue with 6490CW and Uverse internet. It connected just fine to my wireless when I had AT&T DSL. Well, just fine is an overstatement, it would constantly go "offline" and need to be re-connected but at least it printed fine when it was. Now, I switched to Uverse and it WILL NOT connect wirelessly. I went the cabled ethernet route and it STILL has tons of issues recognizing the printer and printing, often stopping mid print and spitting out a half printed page or just not printing at all and telling me the printer is turned off. Next step is to try connecting with a straight up USB connection, bypassing the network completely. I feel like that's my only option short of getting a new printer. Brother's software simply does not work with some networks it seems. I guess it has issues with FIOS as well. This does not surprise me and it is also not surprising that Brother has not updated the drivers for my printer since 2009. Pretty ridiculous since things have changed a lot on the technology front in almost 4 years.

My printer has stopped communicating with our BT home hub It was OK and the security code is correct it just cannot establish a connection. I tried it with the previous Netgear wi fi and it connects just...

you can also change the BT home hub 2.0(black)encryption type to WEP type. all you need to do is follow the steps to change the type of encryption to WEP.

  • connect a computer using the ethernet cable to the hub(its the black cable with yellow leads).
  • open an internet explorer or anyother browser, in the address bar just type 192.168.1.254.
  • you will be getting the BT home hub manager page with please reset your password, asking for three credentials.
  • in the first bar enter the default admin password or the admin password which is found in the wireless card or at the back of the home hub in the label. in the second and third bars enter the password of your own, something like admin1.
  • you will be getting another page coming with four options at the top (home, services, settings and troubleshooting).
  • click on settings, and below troubleshooting in the blue bar itself , you will see advanced settings. click on it.
  • then click on continue to advanced settings, now below home in the blue bar itself, click on wireless.
  • after you do that, you will see two options called as configuration and security. click on security. there you will see the option to change the wireless encryption to WEP.after changing the type to WEP, type the same password again in the section for password and click on apply to save changes.
  • check whether your printer is connecting to your home hub after that,

Cant get my printer s305 to connect to wireless, wont accept wep key ,, any way round it, please help

Good day! There are things you need to check to successfully connect the printer for wireless connection.
1. Make sure the wifi light on the printer is solid orange before continuing. If not, go to Setup > Network Setup > Reset Network Adapter to Defaults. Wifi light should turn off, then wait for it to turn solid orange.
2. WEP key can be ASCII or HEX(hexadecimal) depending on what was assigned to it. You may be using an incorrect WEP key. Just to make sure, access your router setup page and double-check the WEP key assigned to it. If you don't know how to access the router setup page, you can always ask assistance from either your internet service company or the router's manufacturer.
Once you get the correct WEP key and wifi light solid orange on the printer, try connecting the printer again for wireless connection. Good luck!

Cant connect to the internet, and not sure what my wep key is

ok playstations arn't the best for connecting to the internet but they can connect none the less. first get your router closer to your ps3 to make the connection strength better or purchase a signal booster. get you connection evaluated and see if your ps3 is working properley by disconecting it from the mains for about an hour and then reconecting it to the mains. it might connect then but try a signal booster, it might help but it's probably your internet. - good luck
