Question about Canon PowerShot SD1200 IS / Digital IXUS 95 IS Digital Camera

1 Answer

I have a friend's Canon SD1200 IS,I bought a new battery for it.I charged it overnight and installed battery. The camera will not power up.When I was given the camera it also had the lense in the "extended" position.Battery contacts look good,I also pressed the battery in a bit to ensure good contact while trying the on/off button.Any suggestions?

Sounds like there may have been some water damage to the internal parts. If you can, see if the is an adapter available to use with it. This may bypass an affected area and power it up that way.

Hope this helps. :)

This camera doesn't have any external power inputs,it is just battery powered ( a special Li-ion battery). It is a new battery,I have another new battery that I will charge later to be sure it isn't just a bad battery.

The contacts looked shiny and clean.I don't believe that water was the issue she had with it,but I can't be sure.

What did your friend say the reason was for the lens being extended? Did he/she drop it, etc?

It wont turn on i even bought a new batery and still nothing what could it be?

Is your new battery charged? You may need to place it in the charger or hook the camera to the AC power and leave it overnight. If you have a charging cradle try to charge the battery that way. Sometimes that arrive dead.

Can i charge the camera without the charger

Technically, the camera doesn't need charging. As for the battery, the camera does not include any charging circuitry. You need to use the supplied CB-2LY charger. If you need a replacement, you can order one from Canon at

Camera drains charged batteries

Most likely your batteries are just not holding a charge. However, before you spend good money on new batteries, try charging them on another charger (friend or sympathetic photo shop?). Could be the charger also. Usually it's the batteries, though.

Batter won't hold it's charge if left in the camera overnight

Apparently you shouldn't leave the battery in the camera when you're not using it - the on/off switch doesn't turn the thing off completely. Weird!
