How can it not have one? How would the system be initially charged? Also - you couldn't recover the coolant without loosing some which is a highly fineable mistake.

Good day,
May not have one. Just use a piercing line tap available at most any appliance parts house, and use it.

They are charged with a machine that connects to one of the stubs coming off the compressor.

Once done, a tool crimps the tubing.

The charging device is removed and the end of the stub is silver soldered shut, then the crimping tool is removed.

Most, but not all smaller machines are assembled this way.

The compressor is faulty, most likely the Gas in the compressor is not at the right pressure. You can not fix this, this needs to be fixed at a repair shop.

So unless you have coolant gas, a welding torch, a compressor, co2 gas, a air compressor and bottled compressed air, you need to take this to a repair shop.

My ice maker isnt working in my fridge model 106 59292993 the bar is in the down position like it is supossed to be and it sounds like its trying to make the ice but just isnt, do you know why?

Good day,
First off the freezer must must be at 10 degrees or lower. The ice-maker will lock out automatically at any temperature above 12 degrees.
Follow the steps. It will get you there.

First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......
Three possibilities.
1. The water supply from the house is not delivering water to the water valve. Shut off the house at the meter, disconnect the line going to the water valve, and with the line pointed into a bucket, have someone turn the valve back on for a 15 second count. The water should come out smartly. If not, the line and it's fittings will have to be replaced.
2. The fill tube from the back of the machine that feeds water into the back of the ice maker is frozen up. You will have to remove the ice maker to visually inspect that tube. If blocked, it needs to be defrosted, but use caution. Too much heat too fast will start to melt plastic and vinyl parts you don't want melted.
If this is the case, then once cleaned out, you will have to change the water valve located in the back bottom rear of the machine because it is leaking during the off cycle.
3. If everything checks O.K. up to this point, you will have to purchase and install a new water valve, and install it.
P.S. Under very rare occasions the electric circuity in the ice maker will fail to send a signal to the water valve. Although rare, it can happen, in which case the best option is to replace the ice maker and water valve.

Sears Kenmore free standing ice maker not making ice

Hi and wel;come to FixYa. I am Kelly.

Do you know if the compressor is even running?

Also how long has this icemaker been in service?

There are only 3 things that can cause a condition that the unit is not freezing.

1. Low coolant
2. The compressor is not running.
3. The condensor or evaporator fan is not running.

Having said that...

The most common failures for a cooling system are
the PTC relay / thermal overload and the run capacitor.
PTC Relay is item 18 of link below
Thermal overload is item 20 of link below
The condensor fan motor is Item 4 of the link below

Item 5 the electronic control board (see link below) controls the operation of the compressor via the thermostat Item 12 of link below. In addition to that there is also 1 thermistor (Item 20) that is also part of the control circuit.

ANY of the above can cause your icemaker not to function correctly. It will take circuit analysis to isolate which component may be causing your current system.

If the compressor is running and it is not cooling then
There can be any one of the following causing the problem.

1. Low coolant
2. A stuck valve for the cooling / ice making system (5ea)
3. The compressor can be running but not up to speed due to a dragging rotor.

I wish I could say _______ part is what causing your current symptom. It just is not possible without someone doing some on site troubleshooting of everything listed in this post.

Kelly

We have a nice ice and it has worked fab for three years but has just stoped making ice yet is still operating normally

Good day,
Without the make and model, I could be missing something, but ice makers are more alike than different. The best way, is to follow a step by step procedure. It should solve your problem.

First step is to take a small paper cup of water and fill the cavity until it is near full. With the ice maker turned on, close freezer door and wait 3 hours to see if it harvests. If not, the ice maker is bad, and must be replaced. If the cubes harvest then.......

My ice maker stop working

Knowing how an ice maker works can greatly increase your ability to diagnose and repair it. Just like vehicles, ice makers all may look different but they all work on the same princible. A thermostat starts the ball rolling, turning on a motor and a heater to loosen the ice, as the ice dumps a trigger fires up the water valve and refills it. The whole thing comes to a halt and waits till the thermostat gets satisfied once again.
So what can go wrong? The ice maker will give a clue. If their is ice in the ice maker but none in the bucket that is an ice maker failure. If the ice mold is empty and no ice in the bucket then the water valve is bad.
One thing you can do is get a bottle of water and fill the mold. If it kicks out a batch but no more, water valve replacement needed. If it don't then ice maker problem. If you have shelling or fouled cubes, look for dirty coils below the ice box that make for faulty cooling. Ice forms at 32f but ice mold tstats don't kick in the afterburners till 25f. you need to call someone (hvac company) to recollect it legally. they'll need to install a pierce valve and **** it out to collect it. it's illegal to let it out yourself. 1800 junk might do it for a small fee.

If the freezer was stored and not running for 7 years it may have lost coolant.  Since the compressor is running recharging the coolant may fix the problem.  Hot compressor might indicate low coolant since its motor is immersed in it.

Freezer not freezing, and leaking

If this unit has an ice maker and you noticed water leaking into the refigerator, I had a similar problem. The water turn off valve for the ice maker had a small piece of sand or grit lodged in it and stopped the valve from closing properly. So it could not turn of completely and the valve became increasingly more sloppy as the piece of sand was wedged in further. The solution was to replace the samll valve. An easy job for someone a bit handy.

If the water has frozen in the bottom of the freezer compartment the colliing port for the cold air may also be affected. Don't chip the ice out of the bottom, defrost it with pans of hot water.

Hope this helps

Compressor will not start

Take and close down the suction valve on the compressor and then try to start the unit after you recover some of the refrigerant out of the compressor the reason that it is acting like that is probebly because the compressor is full of refrigerant and slugging the valves. also verify the you have all the lesgs of power going to the unit. let me know how this turned out.
