HDD not detected at POST. I need to know how to access the hard drive and/or replace it.

Firstly I don't know why this is being posted under "barcode scanners"!

Secondly, thank you for your reply.

I am a PC/laptop service tech for 15 years but have not serviced an Asus 1201T before. I suspect the HDD has either physically become disconnected or has failed.

I really just need EXACT instructions as to how to access the drive on this particular model. I have phoned Asus to no avail!

    Thanks

    Peter

If your problem here is with your hard drive on your computer that is not detected what you need to do here first is to open your computer tower if this is a desktop and then once you have it open unplug and replug the connection to the hard drive and then restart the computer and check if it will be detected now.

But if still not detected its really best to replace the hard drive so take the old drive out and put the new drive that you have and then after that you need to install operating system and all software to that new hard drive.

We have a Power edge 840 that can't not detect any HDD in starting process, although power and data led are on. Can you help me to solve this problem? Thank you very much! Best regard!

Check both the POWER and the DATA cables between the motherboard and the HDD (Hard Disk Drive).
Remove them, and then re-insert them.

Try connecting the DATA cable to an alternate connector on the motherboard.

Remove the HDD, and connect it to another computer,
to see if the HDD can be detected on that computer.
If not, the HDD is the problem.

Sony Vaio laptop could not access 1TB external hard drive

try other usb port, or other computer and see whether the hdd is detected. If still not, try to go to device manager ( http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000833.htm ), and then assign a drive letter to the hdd. After that, try to access it from Computer, if not able to access it, format it (use quick format) and then use this data recovery program to recover your files.

Shut down the computer.Disconnect the ide cable from hdd .Just connect using primary hdd and boot the computer. Shut down the computer. Connect the secondary hdd both IDE and power cable. Restart the system and go to bios . Check if the both hdd are detected in bios. If detected boot to desktop. If not detected reset bios settings to default.Restart computer and check. IF still not detected shutdown computer.Disconnected secondary hdd and primary hdd, connected secondary hdd to primary ide connecter and check in bios. If still not detected try connecting secondard hdd on different computer and check.

Detect the hdd , cann't instal the os. it reset the system

most likely due to the fact that this may be a SATA hard drive and your installation of the operating system does not know how to access this kind of hard drive due to the fact

1. It may not have the latest SATA drivers which you can obtain from your motherboard manufacturers website are not installed onto the operating system disc ( this is called slip streaming the driver onto the operating system disc ) which you can use nLite for www.nliteos.com

2. You do not have IDE mode enabled in the bios / cmos of your motherboard in terms of how the motherboard should access the hard drive - if you have an option for IDE mode as far as how it treats the hard drive then you may not need to do option 1

3. It may be an idea to disable or play around with AHCI and check the sata settings in the bios / cmos on your motherboard.

If you are still having issues then post back.

Boot failure

Most likely, your hard drive died. Enter the system BIOS to see what it is detecting (or not) for your hard drive(s). If the hard drive is not being detected as I suspect, you could just replace it and reinstall all of your software.

System can detect Fujitsu MHY2160BH : 160GB HDD, but cant install

it seems that your computer might have a SATA hard drive which could not be detectable by windows xp, try to install vista it will detect it easily.

otherwise use dm (disk manager) for detection and partition.

Hard Drive Partition Table Error

If you have a spare HDD, you could install win xP onto that and set the problem drive as a slave. You may then be able to access the slave drive and save some of your files.
