Question about Whirlpool Duet GHW9150P Front Load Washer

1 Answer

Whirlpool front loader model ghw9100lwi I just replaced my pump, but I unknowingly did it wrong and am hoping a simple plumbing solution will fix it. I purchased a new pump that was attached to all the plastic. To avoid disconnecting and reattaching the hoses, I just unscrewed the old pump and screwed in the new pump to the existing plastic and bingo I hear the pump motor running but now I have a major leak between the plastic and the new pump. I did take it out and played around with it, including using 5 screws instead of the 3. Is there a way to get back the seal I obviously broke? I do have A B epoxy putty for my pool?

Take the whole pump out, disconnecting the hoses as well. Split the pump, check the faces are not damaged and apply either the epoxy (if you think you will never need to split it again), silicone, or head gasket sealant. Screw back together evenly a few turn at a time. It may also be that the older rear of the unit is made by a different company than the new pump and the moldings are fractionally different. Use the front and back of the new pump, don't mix old and new.

SOURCE: Whirlpool LXR94 leaks in front left

I have a different model Whirpool (GSX9885JQ0), but a similar issue. I took the cover off and saw the bleach inlet hose was broken in two places. After replacing that, still leaked!! I wiped everything dry, and ran it again, and traced the leak. The water pump has a small hole worn into the side of it. The pump is located in the btoom front, just under the tub. The hole was on the left side, between the two hoses. I just looked up the schematic for your machine on Partselect.com, and it looks like you have the same exact pump...

SOURCE: Whirlpool GHW9300PW water leak

The problem, I suspect, is the door bellow. This is the gray rubber boot on the door and front of the tub. The key is the fact that it only leaks during fill, or when adding water, and only leaks in the front center. The washer fills through a dispenser tube in the door bellow. Water runs through this tube and into the front portion of the tub. If you pull back the rubber folds of the bellow and look, you may have some rips or tears causing the water to drip out. If there are no obvious signs of wear causing the leak, the other two possibilities would be the dispenser tube not inserted through the bellow all the way. That is, the tube may have slipped behind the bellow a bit and may be causing water to drip BEHIND the bellow instead of through the fill port. Another cause would be if one of the clamps that hold the bellow in place has come loose and is not sealing to the front of the tub, or door frame properly. The following link explains how to replace a door bellow:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385211-replacing_door_bellow_whirlpool_duet

I provide this link not only to give you advice in the event that your bellow needs replaced, but also to give you steps necessary to access the bellow in order the check or tighten the clamps. NOTE: An alternate method to checking the rear bellow clamp (located on the front of the tub) is to remove the washer top panel and attempt to access the 7mm clamp nut from the top. The method I have described in the link, however, offers the best access. NOTE: The clamp needs to be seated evenly around the entire perimeter of the tub facing and the clamp should be SNUG. DO NOT overtighten. This will cause damage to the clamp and/or tub facing.

If you require a replacement, you can order on line at appliancepartspros.com. Just type in your model number and look under the "Door and Latch Parts" heading for item number 5. Other items of interest are the rear bellow clamp, item 6 and the front bellow clamp, item 14. In most cases the clamps do not require replacement and can be reused. But, just in case you have to replace them, you now have them identified.

You can perform this repair on your own, if you like and save the cost of expensive labor charges. This is not a difficult repair, if you follow the instructions provided. This repair can usually cost $200 or more (cost of the part, plus the labor) if you have a repairman do it.

The problem could possibly have been caused by excessive vibration, but its hard to tell. Washers mounted on a pedestal can often have vibration problems if the washer is not mounted properly to the pedestal. Make sure all mounting bolts are installed that hold the washer to the pedestal. Make sure they are tight. Also, proper leveling can be an issue. DO NOT attempt to level the feet of the washer on a pedestal. Mount the washer and adjust the feet of the pedestal for proper leveling. Make sure the unit rests on a flat surface and is level front-to-back and side-to-side. A good foundation is also required to ensure the washer does not vibrate. If the flooring under these washers flex (even the slightest) they can cause vibration problems even if it is properly leveled. Flooring in an upstairs laundry room or a mobile home is usually the worst. Another item to consider is the pedestal itself. Look at the back of the pedestal. Is it open in the back, or does it have a back panel that encloses it? If the pedestal back is open, this can cause a condition known as "tin-canning", where the sides of the pedestal waffle in and out and begins to bounce when the washer spins. This can be overcome by purchasing a stiffener kit. Look at your pedestal and let me know if this may be the issue with yours. If so, I can provide you with a part number to order.

If you have further question, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

SOURCE: My Whirlpool Ultimate Care II has water leaking

Your drain pump is leaking. They are not serviceable and cannot be repaired. The following link explains how to replace the pump:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397092-replacing_water_pump

If you need an illustration of your washer and components, searspartsdirect.com, appliancepartspros.com, or pcappliancerepair.com usually have some excellent exploded view diagrams that you can refer to.

Prices can vary between these sites so shop around for the best deal. NOTE: Use the part number from the Sears site and use it to "Search by Part Number" on the other sites. It makes it easier to find as some sites may not have your model number listed, but will still carry the part.

Read through everything thoroughly before beginning any repairs. If you have any questions, or require additional assistance, please let me know. I hope this information is helpful.

NOTE: You can also order a repair manual for about $20 (part number 1170635) at repairclinic.com if you need more instruction.

Control locked light is on. Have replaced control board but control still locked

This advise is for Kenmore Elite and Whirlpool Duet front loader washers and dryers with a Control Lock problem.

This may or may not be an indication of a serious problem. In the majority of the cases, this is a simple operator error. Nearly all these model appliances have some sort of Control Lock feature on the front panel now. This is a designed safety feature that is used to prevent small children from manipulating the controls. The controls can be easily locked or unlocked by pressing and holding the following button on the front panel:

Whirlpool Duet Washer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer - Press and hold the END OF CYCLE SIGNAL button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Washer - Press and hold the DRAIN/SPIN button for 3 seconds.

Kenmore Elite Dryer - Press and hold the AUTO DRY LEVEL button for 3 seconds.

These instructions may not be all inclusive for all Kenmore and Whirlpool models, but they are the most common. Chances are, if you have a Control Lock feature, the instructions will be printed on the front panel adjacent to the button that is required to lock or unlock the controls.

NOTE: These instructions may also work for newer model Maytag, Hotpoint, Admiral and Fridgidaire model front loaders as well. Refer to your owner's manual or front panel for instructions pertaining to your sepcific model.

If the Control Lock feature will not lock or unlock the appliance, unplugging the unit for AT LEAST 30 minutes is recommended in order to reset the main control board. In many cases this is all that is required to correct momentary glitches.

Hopefully, this simple advice will save you an expensive service call.

We have a Whirlpool awm8143 model front loader. works fine

this could signify that you have the outlet hose to far down the outlet pipe of the machine, or if you have it plumbed in to the plumbing under the sink you could have dirty sink water flowing back into the machine

I have a Whirlpool duet HT front loading automatic washer, it's not draining & last time it did this a repair man came and showed me how to get underneath and drain it, but I don't remember how

The following link explains how to access the drain pump on a Whirlpool Duet front loader to clean out the trap:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r385844-checking_drain_pump_kenmore_elite_front

If you are experiencing drainage issues and cleaning the pump does not work, you may have to replace the drain pump. You will usually experience an "F2", "SUD" or "F21" error code (depending on model number) for a drain blockage problem. Since this error code occurs when the drain cycle exceeds 8 minutes, if the pump motor or impeller becomes damaged, the pump will not pump at the required volume and the error code will continue to occur. Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at:

searspartsdirect.com
pcappliancerepair.com
appliancepartspros.com
repairclinic.com

Prices vary between these sites, so shop all of them for the best deal.

NOTE: Make sure you also check the drain hose and the inlet hose that runs from the bottom of the wash tub to the drain pump. Small articles of clothing can commonly get lodged in this area.

If you have any questions, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

Check the drain pump filter for a foreign object and check your hoses for clogging or obstructions.

If there is nothing wrong with either of those, you will need to replace the drain pump.

Bad water pump on my washing machine

Is this a top loader? If so, these instructions should work for you since this is a Whirpool manufactured washer:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r397094-replacing_water_pump

Replacement pumps can be purchased on line at searspartsdirect.com or appliancepartspros.com. Both sites offer excellent illustrations and competitive prices, so shop both for the best price. The pump is listed under the heading for the Pump/Motor/Gearcase. Just use the model number off your washer for your search criteria.

This is a fairly simple repair, but if you have questions along the way, please let me know. I hope this helps you.

PS If my instructions aren't accurate, or if this is not a top loader, please post back with your model number so that I may be able to determine how your washer is contructed.

Water not draining.

If this is a Whirlpool front loader, the only thing between the standpipe and the wash tub is the drain pump and drain lines. If you have not found any clogs in any of the drain lines, and if you can rule out a plumbing issue with your household drain system, you probably have a bad drain pump. The pump may be running, but if the impeller is damaged, or the motor gears are stripped, the pump will not drain the water from the wash tub. I would recommend replacing your drain pump. There are several good websites available for ordering replacement parts. I recommend searspartdirect.com, because they also provide excellent exploded view illustrations of the appliances, making it easier to locate and identify the correct part numbers. You don't have to use their service, but you CAN identify the part number, and shop around if you like. They do offer competitive pricing with most things though. Repairclinic.com also provides excellent service and you may find the same part there at a cheaper price. You can use the following link for step-by-step instructions on how to replace the pump:

http://www.fixya.com/support/r401845-replacing_drain_pump_whirlpool_duet

Keep in mind, the symptoms describe a pump that is NOT running. This is not neccessarily true (as possibly with your situation). In addition, your pump may not have an access cover to remove (depending on model number). Some Whirlpool models have drain pumps that you have to remove the drain line in order to check the impeller and clean. I hope this helps you. Let me know if you require further assistance.
