    I have the same problem...
performed a master reset, still no fix, even re-installed the firmware.
tested again by trying the video-call, and the front camera works, however as soon as I switch to the rear camera it hangs and nothing works.

    :( very sad and disappointed.

This is hardware problem not firmware ... not need to master reset or update firmware ... Just check at back of your P1i ... press softly/sense the camera part with your finger if the lense can be shake/unfixed then press softly the upper part of the camera .. the try open the camera application to take a photo shoot ... try & try again ... the bring your camera to service center ... ask to fix the camera position ... have a try ... My Phone does not switch on.

Perform a hard-reset.

At the expense of your data-loss,
atleast you get your device working back.

To perform a hard-reset on your O2 Xda Atom,
Keep pressed the POWER key, and then perform soft reset. After the device this leave everything and confirm that you want to hard-reset as shown on the screen.

Camera for the Curve wont work

This is the initial sign of the camera coming loose from the socket on the main board.

If it still in warranty then send it out for repair.

If it's out of the warranty then you can put a foam or plastic spacer to under the battery cover.

Just like the battery foam pad under the battery cord to give it firm support.

Place few tab of supporting material under the battery cover. Make sure they does not cover the lense or the flash.

Next time the camera give you the error message again or ghost like image.

Take the battery out and press the camera and flash area firmly until you hear a soft plastic snap sound.

YOU MAKE HAVE TO DO THIS MANY TIMES

Once the camera contacts snap back in place then your are back in business.

Lost camera

if you look on the side of your viewty you will see a switch with three options. they are as follows: camera mode, video mode and picture viewing mode. the reason why you're seeing pictures and not the camera is because your switch isn't on camera mode, it's on the picture viewer. so on the menu go to camera and when you see the pictures just slide the switch to the cam mode.

Camera not working

My sister's blackberry curve 8310 had the same problem with the camera, it would just show up the "could not start the camera. Close other applications and try opening the camera again." message.

In my case the camera hardware was working fine, it just needed more pressure towards the motherboard so it would make more contact. I disassembled the blackberry completely. Then i used some extra foam i had from previous housings, like the one that some blackberries have in their battery cover to do a little bit more pressure on the battery or the one thats around the camera, flash and speaker. I took that foam and cut it into very small pieces and put it around the camera base in the motherboard and around the camera hole in the middle frame. Assembled everything and put some extra foam between the battery cover and the middle frame close around the camera so it would apply pressure. This will void your warranty tho, so yep its easier to just make a backup with desktopmanager and get a new one using your warranty.

Camera problems

you can do a software reset.......to do this the phone needs to be off. press the soft keys (buttons with the lines on them above the back arrow and home button) and press the power button and keep you fingers on the soft keys until a black screen with white writing pops up....by pressing the green call button here, it will reset the phone.....good luck!

Phone gets hanged and needs to be restarted

Try using the reset button at the bottom of the phone... push the buttom with your pointer. By doing this you won't lose any of your saved data and the phone should just re-boot like a computer does.
