Question about Kenmore 62462 / 62464 / 62469 1200 Watts Microwave Oven

1 Answer

I have a Kenmore microwave oven model 62462. It will not shut off when timer reaches 0 it continues to cook untill you open the door. Shut the door and it begins to cook again without pushing start. Also the fan is not running while this is happening. Can you help figure out the problem?

When ever you shut the door it begins to heat. And the fan never runs. If yo push the stop botton nothing happens. You have to open the door to shut it off

Wow that is a major problem here, and is very dangerous actually. So every time you shut the door it starts to cook? Or just after it just finished a cooking cycle... then open, and shut the door and it goes again? And it's definitely heating up in there, no just turning on and rotating with the light on? And the fan is not running at all, or just when it erroneously heats up?

Thanks
Tim

Ok yikes, that is very bad indeed. This to me would indicate that the control unit / module for the microwave is faulty. If you really want to repair this microwave you can order a new one of those and replace it, but of course that involves taking apart the microwave completely, and the install is not exactly simple... Even then whatever caused the original control unit to fail may cause the new one to fail as well. If it were me I would just replace this microwave, but if you must salvage it, get a new control unit for the microwave. A local appliance repair shop can order one for you, or it can be found online... I can locate it if you wish.

    Thanks

How do I get my emerson microwave to turn off after the timer is finished?

There are a couple of microwave ovens out there where after it has finished cooking, the light and fan continue to run until you open the door. Then the fans shuts off, but the light remains on. When you close the door, then the light shuts off. If the light and fan go back on when you close the door, then you have a bad door switch.

Fan & Light stays on???

On a few new model microwave ovens, this is a "feature"! It's purpose is to cool the microwave parts down, and to remind you that your food is cooked. Once you open the door, the fan will shut off and stay off when you close the door again. But if not, or if you microwave oven didn't use to do this, then you have a bad door switch.

Burns my popcorn constantly. is there a different setting i can put it on?

HELLO.

Solution to your microwave problem is given as below.

* 1 Set your Daewoo microwave on a countertop near an electrical outlet and plug it in. Open the door and place the circular roller guide in the center of the oven cavity, then place the glass cooking tray over it.

* 2 Set your food on a microwave-safe dish and then put the dish on the cooking tray and close the door. Make sure that it latches properly.

* 3 Turn the upper knob to select a power level. Power levels include "Defrost," "Med-High," or "High." If your Daewoo has a touch pad, touch the "Microwave" button once to set the highest power level. Touch it consecutive times to lower the power level.

* 4 Turn the lower knob to set the cooking time. For cooking times less than two minutes, turn the knob up past the two-minute mark, then back to the correct time. For touch pad models, enter in the cooking time with the numerical keys and then press "Start."

* 5 Open the door at any time to stop the cooking and check the temperature of your food. Shut the door to automatically continue cooking, or turn the timer knob to the right to add more time. For touch pads, press the "Stop/Clear" button, then key in a new cooking time and press "Start."

* 6 Open the door when the timer reaches the "Off" position and take out your food.

Thanks.

Turntable and cooking power not working, everything else does.

You have a shorting membrane keypad.

If and when an oven is coming on or doing anything by itself, this is very dangerous and can result in a fire.

So until it is repaired, please leave it unplugged or leave the door open when it's not in use, and please do not leave it running unattended.

Feel free to contact me directly (and please include your full model number from the tag in or on the unit) for a free estimate and free tips & do-it-yourself advice.

This is a very serious problem safety first! A microwave oven is safe
As long as the door is closed but is deadly if allowed to operate with it open.
There are safety switches built into the oven that disengage the high powered
Microwaves when the door is opened. They are not operating properly or
The oven would shut off when the door was opened. Microwaves can cause
Severe burns, cataracts, pacemaker malfunctions and cancer. Also microwaves
Can damage the electronics that control the keypad , you microwave oven
Is not just malfunctioning it is a severe health risk and sould not be used.
Unplug it and it must be repaired or replaced if it is still under wannty
And you pay very little are nothing let them fix it otherwise replace it.

This is a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller senses that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

Sharp models stop after 59 seconds.

See the attached sample photo for a typical damper assembly.
