I can't uninstall AVG8 free - neither the uninstall option with the programme, or the control panel method works - they both hang. AVG has installed a host of backup files however, when I first tried to uninstall it - these file extensions are not recognised, and then the Windows search facilitiy hangs too!

    Hi,to whom this may concern
I have tried to uninstall avg 8 from my computer a few times already. I have bought the new kaspersky spyware, comp protection software. When I get to the point of instillation, the kaspersky program, informs me that avg 8 is not uninstalled. I have removed the avg 8 from my computer, but the program keeps on telling me that it is still there. I have even re installed avg 8 and then uninstalled it again, but still no luck. I need to know how to find the avg8 offending program. I have looked everywhere, but can not locate it. PLEASE HELP. Thanks Ian

I faced similar problem and found solution which I think will solve your problem

Click Start button
Go to Run and type "regedit" (type without quotes)

a) use Ctrl + F and type AVG8

or

a) directly go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE key in the registry and you will find AVG folder, remove that and try to install Kaspersky. It will work.

be careful and do it if you are fully confident of what you are doing. I did this and it solved my problem

I tried to download kaspersky internet security 2009 and it would not let me because of 'remains' of AVG8, even though i deleted it from the add/remove. i went to kaspersky website and there is an empty box at the top to search for things. i typed in "fail to install kaspersky because of remains of avg8" (without quotations). after i hit enter there were four items that came up. i hit the very first one, it is called support. read the directions. after reading, download the removal utility (you only have to run it, no need to save it). however, when you click on this button to download the removal utility there will be mulitple avg8remover things that will come up. click on the first on (AVGREMOVER 32bit). a pop up will ask you if you are sure, just hit yes. a small black screen will come up with writing on it and then disappear. when it is gone, the avg is off of your computer. it will only take but a second, literally!!!!! you must restart it to finsh it though!!!
good luck!!!! it's not hard, very very simple!

One way is to run the installation program and select uninstall from the menu.

Another way is to run the uninstall from the add/remove programs then download and run ccleaner

SOURCE: I can't remove AVG8.0 from

Use the AVG Uninstaller that must have got installed when you installed the program.

Also, there may be an option to automatically delete the other anti-virus in the Kapersky Installer. I have done that when I was installing Norton 360. I had Windows Defender which conflicted.

It deleted automatically after I confirmed and Norton installed without any other problem. Actually Norton is better and more used worldwide than any other.

I suggest Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security.

Where is the cmos battery located in the computer??????????

#1
Turn off the laptop and remove the AC adapter. Remove the battery from its compartment on the bottom of the computer. Turn the laptop over and remove the screws holding the DVD drive in place and pull out the DVD drive.
#2
Remove the remaining screws on the bottom of the computer. These screws secure the wireless card cover, the memory card cover and the modem card cover. Then remove all of the plastic covers. Remove the wireless card by sliding it gently out.
#3
Remove the corner screws on the bottom of the laptop securing the bottom housing. Remove the housing by pulling it away from the laptop. Remove any remaining, exposed screws on the bottom of the computer.
#4
Turn the laptop over and remove the thin plastic strip that runs along the border of the keyboard with your fingernails. If your fingernails aren't long enough, a plastic card will work as well.
#5
Remove the two screws on either side of the keyboard securing it to the computer. Remove the keyboard.
#6
Remove all of the exposed screws where the keyboard used to sit. These screws secure the top housing to the computer. Remove the housing, exposing the motherboard.
#7
Locate the CMOS battery. It is a small battery about the size and shape of a coin and should be easily visible on the board. Depending on the model of Toshiba you are working on, the CMOS battery will either be secured with a clip or connected to the board by two small cables. Either way, they are easily removable.
#8
Disconnect the battery by pulling gently away from the cables or by popping the clip out. Your CMOS battery can now be removed

How to change cmos battery give me some video or pictures or something like that plz

Locate your CMOS battery
cmos.gifOpen the computer case and find the battery on the computer motherboard, verify that it will be accessible and that it can be removed. Mostcomputers today use a coin cell CMOS battery as shown in the image tothe right.
If you are unable to locateyour CMOS battery you will need to refer to your motherboard orcomputer documentation and/or contact your computer manufacturer for additional assistance in locating it.
Obtain battery information
Unfortunately, most manufacturers will not list the exact type and model of your CMOSbattery; therefore, once you have located the battery, write down allinformation about the battery (Voltage, chemistry, wiring, andpackaging). If possible, remove the battery and take it to the locationyou plan on purchasing a new battery from.
Additional buying information can be found on our battery buying tips page.
Removing the battery
Caution: While in the computer make sure you're aware of Electro Static Discharge (ESD), your computer is off, and that you're properly grounding yourself. Especially before removing the battery.
Ifyou're computer is using a coin cell battery similar to the aboveexample picture. Removing the battery is relatively simple. Simply useyour fingers to grab on the edge of the battery and pull it up and outof the container holding it. Some motherboards have a clip holding thebattery down. If your computer has this clip you may need to use onehad to move the clip up and the other hand to pull the battery out.
Unfortunately, not all CMOS batteries are removable; some manufactures will only allowa replacement battery to be added. If you're not using a coin cellbattery and are not able to determine how to remove it refer to yourmotherboard or computer documentation and/or contact your computer manufacturer for additional assistance in removing the battery or how to insert a new replacement battery.
Userswith computers that do not have removable batteries only options toinstall a new battery will most likely also need to set a jumper when adding the new battery into their computer.
Insert the new battery
Once you have purchased a new battery, remove the old battery (as instructed above) and replace it with the new battery.
Enter CMOS values
Oncethe battery is replaced turn on the computer and enter all values backinto CMOS or set the values back to the default settings.

Need to replace keyboard in HP Pavilion dv6626us Entertainment Notebook PC. thanks

Hi,
Turn the computer off and close the computer lid.
Remove the battery and the AC power supply.

1st we need to remove the switch cover or keyboard bezel. This is plastic strip that runs above the keyboard.

Turn the computer upside down with the front panel towards you.
Remove the three Phillips screws that secure the switch cover to the computer.

Turn the computer display-side up with the front toward you.
Open the computer as far as possible.
Lift the rear edge of the switch cover and swing it forward until it rests on the keyboard.

Release the zero insertion force (ZIF) connector to which the LED board cable is connected and disconnect the cable from the LED board.
Remove the switch cover.

Now remove the panel directly above the battery compartment and remove the 2 keyboard screws there and another 2 screw in the battery compartment (they should me marked with icons of keyboards)

Turn the computer display-side up with the front panel towards you.
Open the computer as far as possible.
Lift the rear edge of the keyboard until it rests at an angle.
Slide the keyboard back to disengage the tabs on the front edge of the keyboard from the top cover.
Swing the keyboard forward until it rests on the palm rest.

Release the ZIF connector to which the keyboard cable is connected and disconnect the keyboard cable from the system board.

Remove the keyboard.

Just reverse the procedures to replace everything.

Good luck.
