I faced similar problem and found solution which I think will solve your problem
Click Start button
Go to Run and type "regedit" (type without quotes)
a) use Ctrl + F and type AVG8
a) directly go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE key in the registry and you will find AVG folder, remove that and try to install Kaspersky. It will work.
be careful and do it if you are fully confident of what you are doing. I did this and it solved my problem

I tried to download kaspersky internet security 2009 and it would not let me because of 'remains' of AVG8, even though i deleted it from the add/remove. i went to kaspersky website and there is an empty box at the top to search for things. i typed in "fail to install kaspersky because of remains of avg8" (without quotations). after i hit enter there were four items that came up. i hit the very first one, it is called support. read the directions. after reading, download the removal utility (you only have to run it, no need to save it). however, when you click on this button to download the removal utility there will be mulitple avg8remover things that will come up. click on the first on (AVGREMOVER 32bit). a pop up will ask you if you are sure, just hit yes. a small black screen will come up with writing on it and then disappear. when it is gone, the avg is off of your computer. it will only take but a second, literally!!!!! you must restart it to finsh it though!!!
good luck!!!! it's not hard, very very simple!

SOURCE: I can't remove AVG8.0 from
Use the AVG Uninstaller that must have got installed when you installed the program.
Also, there may be an option to automatically delete the other anti-virus in the Kapersky Installer. I have done that when I was installing Norton 360. I had Windows Defender which conflicted.
It deleted automatically after I confirmed and Norton installed without any other problem. Actually Norton is better and more used worldwide than any other.
I suggest Norton AntiVirus or Internet Security.
