If you have hard water, glasses can look spotted and cloudy even after cleaning. Sometimes changing the dishwasher detergent can help. The easiest solution to clearing up glasses that start to look cloudy is toadd some vinegar to the bottom of the dishwasher before you start a cycle. Simply add 1 cup of white vinegar and it will clear up your glasses very well.
You should see marked improvement after the first time you do this. If they are not crystal clear then simply repeat the process until all of the cloudiness is gone. In fact I recommend to using a little vinegar in each cycle to maintain the clarity of the glass.

Note: you can pre-test this by rubbing some vinegar on an individual glass with a cloth. If you cannot remove the cloudiness by soaking it and rubbing vinegar on it then it is possible that the glass is etched due to harsh or cheap dishwasher detergent and vinegar will not solve the problem.

Frigidaire d. w. grit and white film on glasses

Good Morning Friend,

I see that you are receiving grit and a white film on your glasses, in your Frigidaire dishwasher, model# FDB1050REC. Here are some common solutions that you can begin with.

-Check your water hardness. Hard water can cause lime deposit buildup on the interior of the dishwasher. Dishes and glasses may also get spots and film for a number of reasons. To remove buildup, spots and film, clean using the following instructions:
1. Load clean dishes and glasses in a normal manner. Do not load any metal utensils or silverware.
2. Do not add detergent.
3. Select the NORMAL WASH cycle. Close and latch door. Press START/CANCEL pad.
4. Allow your dishwasher to run until it starts the second water fill (approximately 10 minutes).
5. Unlatch and open the door, and pour 2 cups of white vinegar into the bottom of dishwasher.
6. Close and latch the door and allow the cycle to finish.
For extremely hard water, it may be necessary to install a water softener.

-Your water temperature may be low. Avoid extremely low or high temperatures.

-Avoid overloading and improper loading.

-Make sure you are using fresh detergent. Old detergent is ineffective.

-Make sure your rinse aid dispenser is filled.

-Check to see that the proper amount of detergent is being used for cycle selected.

-Your home water pressure may be too low-it should be 20 to 120 pounds per square inch (psi).

If none of these suggestions helps, I would suggest contacting either the manufacturer or a local authorized technician. Hope this helps.

-Best Regards-

We had an ongoing battle with white film on glasses and dishes, inside...

<p>If your <b>dishwasher does not seem to be cleaning well</b> anymore and you are getting<b> residue and film left on your dishes</b> then you need to read this.<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Since July of 2010 the US Government has mandated that <b>dishwasher detergents</b> contain no more then 0.05% phosphates in them. The Detergents before this had contained up to 8.7% phosphates. The restrictions were for 16 states but many companies then dropped the phosphates from detergents to all states...<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Now if you are having the <b>scum, film, and white residue problems</b> in your <b>dishwasher, </b>there is hope.<br /> <p><span>There is a product that you can buy that will compensate for what the makers of the </span><b>dishwasher detergents</b><span> have left out. This product as commonly know as </span><b>TSP</b><span> or </span>(<b>Trisodium Phosphate</b>).<br /> <p>By adding this to your dishwasher, you can manually add back the phosphates to your dishwasher and enhance the cleaning process.<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>Now the nest question...how much TSP do I add to the dishwasher?<br /> <p><br /> <br /> <p>For many dishwashers, waters, and for normal loads you will find that a tablespoon or two is all that you will need. Glasses have a white, chalky film around the top of glasses

This due in part with the government mandate to remove phosphates from detergent.
Several things can be done to improve the clean appearance of your dishes.
1. Start a wash cycle with no dishes and no soap. Once the wash cycle has stated and water is circulating, open the door and pour in one quart of white vinegar and resume the wash cycle.
2. Use a detergent named FINISH.
3. Use only the recommended amount of detergent.
4. Periodically use a product named LemiShine.
Taking these steps will improve the quality and appearance of the dishes.
On a final note: too hot water temperature can cause etching in glasses and only a lower water temp will prevent new glasses from etching.

My dishes are coming out with a kind of film on them -- especially the silverware and glasses. Now the plates even look like they have a film on them. The dishes are often still dirty.

Hi
White film deposits are observed if water is hard or when you are using more detergent than needed, try filling detergent cup half way. Try using white vinegar after the wash cycle is complete, run a complete cycle. Also turn down the heat on the hot water fed to the dishwasher. Try using water softener for better results.
You can also add vinegar in the final rinse cycle. Make sure that your soap dispenser drawer is opening and closing fine.
Hope this helps... Please post back if more information is required.
