Hi,

Try lowering the PC's Screen Resolution and Screen Refresh Rate to the lowest possible (800 X 600 @ 60Hz) and work them up a step at a time to your preference. Both can be found at the Settings tab of your Display Properties. Of course, you would still need to press the Fn & F? keys of the laptop to activate external. The Fn key is one of the function keys with a monitor icon on it.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

Why a black screen on xps l701x w7 i7 1.73

Black screen - no flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - no picture at all, i.e. the initial Dell start-up screen doesn't show up either:
- LCD is dead or isn't getting a signal - not an easy fix; or
- the LCD isn't being sent a signal - holding down the function [Fn] key and press display Function key to toggle through its settings (LCD panel only, Rear VGA output only, both LCD and VGA output)

Black screen - flashing white cursor in the upper left corner - the screen goes black after the windows loading screens come up but before the windows login screen comes up - it is probably a windows video driver problem. Try starting in Windows Safe Mode with VGA. Press [F8] after the Dell startup screen disappears to access the windows startup menu

Samsung laptop freezes and flickers

Freezing is probably caused by a virus or infection.

Try booting into safe mode, then download and install MalwareBytes and run a quick scan.

Turn off the computer, then hit the power button to turn it back on and immediately start hitting the F8 key repeatedly until you see SAFE MODE. Take the Safe Mode With Networking option (this will give you internet connectivity) and let it boot up. Safe Mode will look different to you, the screen will be darker and the icons bigger, this is normal. Open your internet browser then download and install MalwareBytes and run a Quick Scan.

Go to www.google.com and in the search box type: "Download cnet Malwarebytes" (without the quotes). Download and install malwarebytes from the sites download.cnet/malwarebytes. When the site opens up click on the Green Download button on the left. Do not click the Red Download button, that's junk. When it finishes installing the Gui Interface will open up with an offer to Accept a Trial Version or Decline. CLICK DECLINE you want the totally free version. Run a QUICK SCAN. As it scans, if it finds infections the number will be in red. When it finishes scanning, click SHOW RESULTS. A notepad text document will open up showing you the results. You can close the text document and go back to the Gui Interface where you will click REMOVE SELECTED RESULTS. The objects will already be selected for you. When it finishes removing the objects click ok and it will sometimes reboot your machine.

If you are talking about your screen flickering, the lcd screen might be going bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If the video shows on the external monitor without flickering that proves your video card is ok, ,but your lcd screen is bad. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. Hold down the FN key then hit the correct key for displaying on the monitor (F1 thru F12). The correct key will normally have CRT/LCD on it or it will have the icon of a display.

If the external monitor flickers like your lcd screen then the video card inside the computer is bad.

On acer aspire5755g lcd flash lines will appear and disappear when clicking on display

Sounds like your lcd is going bad. Try tapping the lcd on the back of the lid and see if the lines flash or appear. Try connecting another monitor to the computer. Borrow a monitor from a neighbor, friend, relative or co-worker and connect it to the computer. If the Borrowed monitor displays ok without the flash lines then the video card inside the computer is good, but your original lcd screen is bad. If the Borrowed monitor displays the flash lines like your lcd screen then your video card inside the computer is bad.

Plug in an external monitor and see if the display shows up on it. It can be any kind of monitor even the old big fat crt monitors as long as it has a vga cable to connect to your computer's vga port. If so that proves your video card is ok. The video will show on most systems when you reboot without you having to do anything. Some systems will require you to hit the FN (Function key) + F1 thru F12. I cannot connect to my hp dv5220us to the tv through vga. i think the vga driver is not installed . please suggest me which driver am i supposed o download.thank you.

Most laptops have three modes for video:
* output only to internal LCD screen
* output only to external VGA port
* output to both internal and external

Hold down the 'fn' ("function") key on the keyboard, and press one of the twelve 'F' ("function") keys, to "toggle" the video through the above 3 modes of operation, until you get output through the VGA port to the TV.

Also, on the TV, use the "input" or "source" button on the TV's remote control to select the 'VGA' input-port as the signal to be displayed on the TV screen.

How do I connect my Laptop computer to my LCD TV?

Every laptop has at least a VGA (computer video connection) and s-video cable port. A VGA cable is preferred if you want to be able to read text on your LCD TV. Check to make sure that your LCD TV has a VGA connector. It's a port that accepts a 15-pin connection so it's pretty easy to spot if it's there. It's just like a computer monitor cable if that helps. Should be able to find it at any local retail store that carries computers. VGA or RGB cable.

Hooking a laptop to a lcd tv

If your LCD TV has VGA input, then you can buy a cable that goes vga out of laptop to VGA in of TV... Also you can get an audio cable that goes from line out of your laptop to 2 rca jacks for your TV...

Radio Shack sells both types of cables - and you can also buy them from many online retailers if you look for video or audio video cables... I got a paired set from pcconnection.com
