You can't dismantle the lens without causing permanent harm. You need to contact the repairer and tell them about this problem.

How can I repair the lens error message on my Nikon Coolpix S6800 camera?

Copied from Nikon's Service & Support Page:

Having a "Lens error" message display on the camera's LCD display indicates a problem with the camera lens mechanism. This situation generally requires that the camera be sent to a Nikon Service Department for repair. Before doing this however, be sure to check these situations below:
  1. One possible reason for this error is if the camera is switched on and the lens unit is prevented from extending. The camera will struggle for a second to extend the lens, then report the problem. Inspect the lens for any obvious obstruction, then turn the camera off, then on again. Usually, simply switching the camera Off then On again is enough to correct this problem.
  2. Remove and recharge the battery. Retest.
If this does not help, then we regret the camera must be sent to our Nikon Service department as there are no user serviceable parts on Nikon Coolpix cameras.

Hi i buy used nikon coolpix e8700 and when i turn on after 5 sec i have on the screan lens error and on top litlle screan i got error 60

Hello

Unfortunately a "lens error" message is not something that you will be able to fix. This error indicates a system failure and requires the camera to be sent in for servicing and repair.

You may find it more cost effective to purchase a new camera as opposed to the repair price on your current camera.

I dropped my Nicon E8700 and it landed on the lens... IT stopped working. Is it repairable?

I hope your lens did not shatter. It is repairable. Please take it to the service center. If the lens is not shattered, the cost should be low.

My 17-55 lens sent to Canon Canada for repair of I.S. 2 mo later got it back, worked for one week. Now the IS has an electrical short..rapidly clicking , can't use the lens, won't turn off unless I remove...

I suspect the part must have been on order from Japan for the repair to take that long. If you are confident the lens is the source of clicking/failure then I would suggest sending it back. I'm sure the repair warranty would ensure a speedier return than the first time.

Stripes across viewing screen

almost sure this is cause by flex circuit in the zoon lens that is damaged and need to be replaced. Almost always the problem of stripes in the picture is worst when you take pictures in full zoom mode because in this position of the lens the flex circuitis is fully streched. Thats all folks

Coolpix 8700 turns itself on, with power switch in off position

Hello

The problem is that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair center for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance.

Regards
Andrea

Lens Error on Nikon Coolpix L3

Sometimes removing the batteries for a day may correct the problem temporarily. But the real problem is really in the lens mechanism. "Lens error"can only be repaired by Nikon or an authorized repairman. I sent mine back in Dec. 2007. It was repaired free of free of charge under the warranty. It was fixed and returned very fast.
The same problem just reoccurred and I sent it back to Nikon this very morning. They told me this is not a problem with this model, but I beg to differ. My internet search revealed that this apparently is a problem with many Nikon lens mechanisms.

Lens Error Message

Hi there

I had the same problem a year after I bought my camera. I returned it to Nikon and they fixed it and returned it. The problem reoccurred 3 times and each times Nikon repaired it free of charge. Then after a year it went again and, when I returned it to Nikon they sent me a new camera. Within a couple of months the new camera had the same problem. I have since resolved it with new batteries! The original coolpix rechargeable batteries do not seem to recharge properly so when I put ordinary AA batteries in it suddenly worked. Good luck.
