Thanks for that, but it doesn't seem to be the issue, and I tried all of the 'self repair' tips.

It seems to work only if I hold the power button down?

Your camera almost certainly has a lens error. This is such a common fault that I hope you don't mind me pasting my stock generic answer below. No point in reinventing the wheel!

Stuck lenses are probably the most common reason that compact digital cameras get thrown away, but there's a fair chance of recovering use of your camera again

The fault is commonly caused by dirt or grit blocking the mechanism, or due to it having suffered a recent fall. Another common cause is that the camera was in a pocket or bag and the power button accidentally activated and tried to open the lens against resistance. The mechanism may have simply become dislodged or there may be parts which have broken.

If your camera is still under warranty and has definitely not been subject to misuse then contact the Kodak service department in your country to find out about a free repair. If the warranty has expired though a professional repair will far exceed the cost of replacing your camera. You will therefore have nothing to lose by trying to fix this yourself.

Please click here and you will be taken to an excellent article provided by the Camera Repair website. For the most part, you'll be guided on how to physically manipulate your camera to try and clear the fault.

If the link doesn't work then cut and paste the following address into your browser:-

Good luck, I hope you manage to use this information to fix your camera. Please take a moment to rate the free answer I have provided for you.

Thanks for the feedback. In that case, the next most likely fault is either a worn-out rechargeable battery (very common) or a failed battery charger. The latter fault is usually easy to spot; no charging lights comer on when it's connected to the camera. Your battery will be about four years old now, so it's right on schedule for replacement, the lithium battery used tends to fail suddenly and without much warning. CRV-3 batteries can be obtained online fairly cheaply: the cheapest ones really aren't much good but will at least help to diagnose your fault or you can use a pair of alkaline AA cells but the battery life will be very short.

Don't have a battery like that. It takes 2 AA batteries, and even when they are brand new and not rubbish ones, same problem.

Sorry to be down, alas the solutions aren't for this particular problem!
I'm very grateful for the assistance, however :)

I have the same camera with the same problem. It only started happening when I put the Samsung rechargeable in my pocket, then accidentally threw them away. I started using regular AA's. It will only take a few pictures then say battery low. Or it will not turn on at all, or turn on, then right back off. My suggestion is to buy new Samsung A7 batteries. I am looking for them now online. I am almost positive this will solve your problem.

Camera shuts down when 'zoom lens' is used.

Hi there please follow the steps and let me know the result.

1. Ensure batteries are fully charged & clean the battery connector point in side the battery compartment.

2. Look carefully between the lens and the camera body for any sand, dirt or any damaged etc.

3. Try turning the camera with the lens facing down and shake to dislodge anything stuck

4. Try removing batteries and memory card, wait 5 minutes and refit the battery only.

5. Now turn on camera( with out card ) and see ,if working then fix the memory card & again turn on the camera. If working then fine .
Otherwise format the memory card and fix back in camera again & try. Make sure before format the memory card take a
back up all photos in your computer then format. If no luck then reset or restore the camera setting by pressing Menu key for 2 sec ..
in not done the press both Menu & self time key for 2 - 4 sec.

Camera won't stay on

I may be able to help with your Kodak EasyShare Z740 that turns itself off.

It may be a 'lens extending' problem, or it might be fixed with a combination of button presses to reset it while turning it on.

Try these steps to fix your camera.

I hope that helps.

Will not turn on

I had this same problem with my camera a few years back and took it into a camera store to get it fixed. It turned out that it was just the batteries I was using. You cant use regular AA batteries for this camera because they give too much power. If you just go to a walmart or target or anywhere like that, you can get AA camera batteries and that SHOULD solve the problem. let me know if that works.

TV turns on, then immediately off again

hi nel2874

so, you have a television that turns off immediately after you turn it on.
It sound like your power supply on the unit is out. Because I don't know the value of your unit I cannot comment on replacing the unit. But I would recommend that you use our website to find a Flat Panel TV Repairman near you. You may want to call to get an estimate on replacing the power supply before considering replacing the unit.

P850 shuts itself off for no reason

Try using a liquid contact cleaner. I read about this fix on another site, worked great for me.
A product called DeoxIT in the U.S. is what was suggested, I am in Canada and can't get that here so I picked up a product from a company called NexxTech. Just a liquid contact cleaner.
Take out the battery of the camera. Put a few small drops of the contact cleaner on the power button and let it drip down into the switch. Rotate the on/off switch back and forth 5-10 times, put the battery back in and Voila! Fixed!
No more random on/off irritations, camera works just like it did before the problem arose a few weeks ago.
It worked great for me.
Good Luck!
