Question about Bestec (ATX100-5) (ATX1005B) Power Supply

PC won't turn on.

Hi, I have a HP xg922 model PC with a Bestec Power supply (model: AXT 100-5), and it won't turn on. The monitor is in working order, the voltage switch is set correctly and the hard drive and switches all seem to be okay, so why won't it work?

After i turn on my gateway model GT5404, the three fans turn on for 3-5 seconds, then stop spinning and my system does not turn on

Yes. Exactly. You have found the problem.

http://support.gateway.com/s/pc/R/1009371/1009371nv.shtml

Uses an ATX form factor Power Supply. One that is common in a LOT of desktop computers. Readily available.

Gateway Support indicates there are three generic Power Supply makers, for the Power Supply in your computer,
Delta, HiPro, and Bestec. (Same one's for HP too)

Indicates the form factor is uATX/BTX.
Whatever, Gateway.

An ATX Power Supply's case dimensions are approximately -
6 Inches Wide, 5.5 Inches Long, and 3.5 Inches Tall.

Power cabling is also a designator when referring to ATX.
The new Power Supply's on the market, cover ATX power cabling, and more.

This is an example of an economical, yet reliable, Power Supply, that will work,

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4465483&CatId=1079

Has all the power cables you will need, plus more. Tie the unused power cables up out of the way. (USE plastic ties)
Concerned it is a 500 Watt unit, and not a 300 Watt unit as came with your computer?

No need to be.
1) A computer ONLY uses the power it needs, and NO more.
If you are surfing the internet, and the computer only needs a 100 Watts, it will ONLY use 100 Watts.

Playing an intensive game, or using an intensive program?
Could use the whole 500 Watts.

2) Will it harm your computer? No.
You could use a 10,000 Watt Power Supply, and it won't harm your computer. (10,000 Watt is an exaggeration)
Why?
Because a computer will ONLY use the power it needs, and NO more.

Want to know power consumption of a hpsr5410f

The HP Pavilion w1907, 19 inch Widescreen monitor, RK283AA,
uses 49 Watts in operating mode, 2 watts in sleep mode.

The Compaq Presario SR5410F Desktop PC, has a 250 Watt power supply. (Maximum wattage rating )

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01374067&tmp_task=prodinfoCategory&cc=us&dlc=en&lc=en&product=3686678

Theoretically.

Back in the day when this computer was made, Power Supply manufacturers were 'fudging' a bit on the truth.

(HP has their Power Supply's made by another company.
Bestec, HiPro, and Delta, are three of them )

Actual wattage is more like 60 to 70 percent, of what is stated.
250 divided by 10 = 25.
25 times 6 = 150 (60 percent)
25 times 7 = 175 (70 percent)

Your Power Supply's actual maximum rated wattage, may be as low as 150 Watts!

Going with the Power Supply produces a maximum of 250 Watts;

If you are playing an intense game, or have several programs running at once, you MAY reach using 250 Watts.

Just surfing the internet? About 100 Watts.

Desktop PC plus Monitor:
1) Surfing Internet: 149 Watts, or let's just say - 150 Watts

2) Computer is maxed out running hard?
249 Watts, or let's just say 300 Watts.

Voltage times Amperage = Wattage
Wattage divided by Voltage = Amperage

Number 1 above? About the power it takes to use a 100 Watt light bulb, and a 50 Watt light bulb. (Incandescent)

Number 2? About the power it takes to run three 100 Watt light bulbs.
(Incandescent)

Take the power supply to a retailer or computer shop in your local area to be tested. Pretty standard from what I have found out.

PC won't turn on, small green light flashes on back of PC. 2 recent power outages in neighborhood.

Hate to say it, but it's likely your power supply. For years now, HP/Compaq, and Gateway/eMachines/Acer have all been putting 'Bestec'-brand power supplies in their brand-new desktops. I tired of replacing them because a) Brand-new computer owners strayed away from me if I warned them about it prior to 'the inevitable', and b) Often, power surges on these Bestec power supplies would also 'take out' the motherboard, and sometimes even hard drive (and data!). After years of seeing this, I reported this incredible catastrophic known-fail rate to a law firm in NY who is supposedly going after the manufacturers for this problem (or ignoring the problem). Power supplies can be bought for under $100, and any technician who is honest and affordable (and can also afford gas!) should be able to install one for under $50 (I do it for $30, for comparison). Those guys ARE out there--so search one out, and hopefully you'll be up and running in a few nanocycles (sorry, redundant error on my behalf--I'm a nerd, okay?).

I have a bestec atx30012z and the power turns off after a few seconds of turning it on.

Most computer testing facilities will test your current power supply for free. A replacement is very inexpensive to replace. Bestbuy, MicroCenter, small computer shops and buy replacement from Amazon.com, newegg.com.. Just make sure you have the correct information for your replacement. The model number on the power supply would be your best bet in most cases. Good luck and have a great day. I buy power supplies as low as $15 dollars Generic

My power supply is blinking green light and my PC has no power

plug your pc directly to your wall outlet and see if it turns on. If it works, then the problem is your power supply. If power supply has a reset button, press it and try again. If pc does not turn on when plugged to wall outlet, then power supply for pc may be out.

Your power supply is fried. I had the same problem with my Bestec ATX 250 power supply. I fixed the problem by installing the StatTech model: ATXPOWER250. It was easy to install and works well. It is almost identical to the original but more quiet. I got it for $29 at MicroCenter.com. Also at online Newegg.com, Radioshack.com, Provantage.com, June 20,2009

Upgrade for Bestec ATX-1956D (HP p/n: 0950-4106)

How about the LC Power LC350M Micro ATX - 380 Watt

or the

Logisys 350W Micro ATX

They should fit your form factor and output as much as 350W being relatively cheap, but neither gets 18 amps on 12V rail...
I think no power supply of that size has an output like that...think about a cheap but substancial chassis upgrade if you need that power...Have a look at directron for the PSUs.
