Question about LG 42LC2D 42 in. LCD HDTV

3 Answers

I have a LG 42" LCD tv(42LG7000) that I bought 1.5 years ago. It started turning itself off and then does 20 second loops of turning on and off. The sound starts to stutter just before it shuts down. If i leave it for a while it returns to normal but any attempt to change input or settings on the tv sends it back into the loop. I tried to have power off for a while as well as reboot to factory settings but no effect.

Thanx. I will try your suggestions.

Tried all except circuit testing with no effect. It does however seem to recover faster after being turned off for a while. Any other suggestions please.

would it help if i just replaced the whole board?

  • waynana Oct 04, 2010

I fixed it!!! I was closing up the tv, still considering to buy mainboard, when I noticed on LG's website that a software upgrade was available for my tv. I downloaded and installed it, thinking "oh, what harm could it do". After installation the tv works 100% and nothing needed to be replaced. This is the link if anyone else could make use of it... http://www.lg.com/uk/support/product/sup...

Sounds like the power supply for the tv is going the part and labor involved are not usually expensive and I would suggest it seeing as how new the tv is

hope this helps

That would be most likely a faulty power supply aka power inverter board.

The possible fault can be in the main board as the set is powering up and switching to standy by,But the analysis of the trigger to shut off can be related to a semiconductor switch. a thermal runaway or a losse connection.
No mae the first possible test for dry joint or loose connection have the board tapped on to simulate a switch off , if so zero in to the fault, similarily check to externally heat up the suspected section to see if the switch off goes faster, alternatively use a freeze it spray to cool off to confrim the section.
the final canbe the tough part if the above wont workout, you will need to analyse voltage in sections before and after the fault, check solder points of ICs and drivers, finally note the final event of the shut down which can relate to the faulty section, In this case check the audio output IC.

The fault seems to be in the input end of the mother board.Needs a check with the circuit diagram with voltage and signal tracking as the fault occurs.

dont waste unless it can be confirmed with a swap.

I need to replace a 42LG7000 screen but can't find one anywhere

its hard to find screen replacement only since only in the manufacturer have spare it. or you can find already used lcd screen in the electronic shop.i suggest that you buy a new tv instead of replacing the screen, if you can get replacement screen from the manufacturer i'm sure it was expensive like replacing with new tv.

LG 42 LCD no sound or picture

Did anyone find out the solution for this??????? I have the exact same problem with my LG 32 LCD. I only had it for a year and a half, and the green light blinks a few times and it shows no picture. Not even a red light when the tv is off. The same thing happened a couple weeks ago and by some miracle it started working again.

42 in LG LCD TV turns off by itself

Found that TV started switching off by itself. Would try to come on..green light blinked for 2-3 seconds, tv came on (with picture and sound) for 1 or 2 seconds and then it would turn itself off. Found that the issue is with one channel only. If you are facing this issue....try quickly changing the channel the moment it comes on. You can do it either with remote or with the TV buttons directly. also in the same logic, if this is still happening, try changing the source to another (rgb-pc, av1, av2 etc). Basically change it from whatever input it is on currently, if changing the channels does not work. My symptom was that the tv made a loud 'TIK' 'TAK' sound which is louder than normal.
