It IS DDR2 Sdram ram memory.
Has 240 gold plated contact pins. 120 on EACH side.
Has one Locating Notch on the bottom.

It is DDR2 Sdram that operates at a maximum frequency rate ('Speed') of 400MegaHertz.

[400MHz]

Also known as PC2-3200

It is Non-ECC. Your computer USES Non-Error Correcting Control

[Also known as Error Correcting Code ]

NO MATTER WHAT, make sure there is a ram memory module ('Stick') in Slot 1. Also known as DIMM 1.
This is the ram memory slot closest to the Processor. (CPU)

Asus gives this as the board memory spec:

    -4 x 184-pin DIMM Sockets support max. 4GB DDR400/333/266 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory

I suspect you bought DDR2 type memory.

Not upgrading 1gb ram to asus p5vdc-mx

    yeap its the wrong memory.
    max mem is 2GB DDR2 533/400 non-ECC, 2 x 184-pin DIMM

or you can use. 2GB DDR 400/333/266 non-ECC,
Note, you cant use both DDR2 and DDR in the same time. so set both memory stick as same type.
so if you set 2x1GB DDR2 533 you get the optimized speed.
    hope it helps.

Hello! can i use two 1GB DDR2-800 ram in my motherboard INTEL D102GGC2

Your motherboard takes 533 or 400 DDR2 SDRAM Non-ECC DIMMs.
If your memory is DDR2 Non-ECC it will fit but only work at 533.

    I had similar problem with CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory

    If this is your RAM:
Corsair 1024MB Value Select PC2-4200 (533MHz) DDR2 RAM, 128Mx64non-ECC, 240-pin DIMM, Unbuffered, CL4, Lifetime warranty (VS1GB533D2) Then it is high density. You need low density to work, look for one ending with an 8, not 64.
