Question about ASUS Motherboard Striker II Formula

Open Question

Configuration: Asus Striker II Formula Bios rev. 2402 Tagan 1100W BZ EVGA 8800 GT x 2 SLI DDR2 OCZ PC6400 Riper DUAL 2 x 1GB WD 500GB The problem is in POST message - INIT 8042. After I switch on it start to loop this command with black screen on my monitor. Than I have to wait couple of cycles and it start further operations. Next is "Warning boot fail" message and two options to choose "F1" move forward to start the system or "Del" to bios. I used to set automatic settings in bios and also my settings according to DDR manufacturer informations. It do not matter. There is still the same situation. I have changed mobo battery, clear the cmos. Something what is confusing me is that after some time of normal running it appears unstable voltage on different sensors controlled in PC PROBE II. Is anybody familiar with this problems ?? I need some suggestions to solve this problem. I appreciate any solutions. Chris

SOURCE: cmos checksum error

cmos checksum errors are caused by a bad battery.
If that dont work then the board is bad from the factory.

Make sure that the battery contacts are good. If they are then you then are experiencing a faulty BIOS chip. try reflashing the BIOS. If this doesnt work, replace the board.

SOURCE: ASUS Striker II Formula Motherboard and SLI Problem

The memory you are using WONT work stable with 4 modules inserted on the motherboard.
According to the Qualified Vendors List (QVL) you are only able to run 2 modules stable.

Got the same motherboard and had the same memory modules (4x1GB) and wasn't able to get them stable as well.
By calling Asus they told me 2 modules max would be stable and 4 wouldn't.
And it was .. 2 modules was stable .. and 4 modules was BSOD's, freezes and hungs everytime! 2 modules was also endless Prime95 stable while 4 modules caused BSOD's after 30 minutes ..

Since Vista kinda needs 4gigs of RAM I bought new memory (OCZ XTC SLI 4096MB (2x2GB) PC6400 800Mhz 4-4-4-15) to solve this issue!

Can you mix 1gb and 2gb dimms in the same machine (for a total of 6gb)? I added two 2gb 1066 DDR2 dimms (''OCZ'') to a PC that already had two 1066 DDR2 1gb dimms (''Kingston''). I moved the 1gb dimms to...

Your MB is AM3 with 128MB DDR3-1333 built-in, four 1.8 Volt DDR2-1200+ depending on cpu. Have you enabled cpu 64 bit extensions? Tried slowing down your memory bus?
My ASUS use dual channel for dual core cpu. I have 2 yellow and 2 black dimm sockets. Both dimms in yellow is single channel, one in yellow and one in black is dual channel. Might try 2,1,2,1 rather than 2,2,1,1 order. If only your 2 1GB dimms are seen then why do you get 4 GB from 1GB+1GB? Sounds like sockets 1,2 are giving you 4GB and 3,4 don't work? Are the 1GB+1GB in 3,4 visible if the dimms in 1,2 are removed? Per Gigabyte page your AMD Phenom II 920 is AM2+ : "Note: Due to AMD AM2+ CPU limitation, memory module DDR2 1066 or above speed is only supported by 1 dimm per channel." Per AMD (which does not show your cpu, AM3 cpu fit AM3 or AM2+ socket and support ddr2 and ddr3, AM2+ cpu only work in AM2+ socket and support ddr2 only.

ASUS Striker II Formula Motherboard and SLI Problem

The Dominators are high performance memory. They are spec'd for 2.1 volts, so you must set the DRAM voltage in your BIOS to 2.1 volts, not the standard 1.8 JEDEC specification. Also, make sure you set your latency timings to the following:

5=CAS Latency=TCL
5=RAS# to CAS# Delay=tRCD
5=RAS# Precharge=tRP
15=RAS# to Activate to Precharge=tRAS
Command Rate 2T

These settings should automatically populate in one of your EPP profiles.

Motherboard Issue

Hi Tomokato,
This maybe nothing but the first thing I checked is the CPU.
Supported CPU list through Asus web site for M2N-SLI
(Click on this link).
The first supported 64 X2 is;
Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (CU),512K,65W,rev.F2,SocketAM2
Second CPU supported;
Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (DD),1MB,65W,rev.G,SocketAM2

The CPU that you are using is not supported.
Since this is a new CPU, you might be able to exchange it for the Athlon 64 X2 3600+ (CU),512K,65W,rev.F2,SocketAM2.
Link to Asus main web site for M2N-SLI.
Suggest you add the above link to you're favorites.

Even you're memory is not supported. As seen in user manual page. 2-13.

Have more questions, feel free to ask.
