Try it on another machine....else u need to download an application called KILLDISK (windows version) from google and use that to kill the USB pendrive...then format it...
warning...this operation will wipe ur pendrive.,..so be ready to loose all data in that....

pls revert back and kindly leave a feedback and rating for this solution....it will help me become a "Guru" here...from Master...

Kingston Datatraveler Windows 7.

1]Go to control pannel
2]Go to System and Security
3]Go to Device Manager
4]Click Universal Serial Bus Controllers
5]Right click the USB
6]Click Uninstall
then Reboot computer while pendrive is inserted in USB
Then connect to the internet.
When you connect to the internet if the said USB is empty
(i.e. no device is inserted in it) they install the device
eventhough the device is not present, causing the said error.

I tried this but my pendrive is not recognized when i plug it in windows sees it and says its installed but there is nothing there and i cant even format it killdisk will see it but says its busy and wont display any other info on it

Realed to Trasient 4 GB pendrive - malfunctioning

maybe the usb port is not active or disabled or the pendrive is defective, if its still under warranty try taking it bqack to the retrailer

Win98 is not recognized my pendrive

You'll Find it is the USB ports..Not the pendrive .USB driver weren't found in windows until WIN ME.
Look for USB drivers for WIn98 and it should work at at least 1.1 maybe not the 2.0 speed.

For Solving your problem do the following

1. Check that the USB is connected properly to the mother board
2. USB 2.0 Drivers are loaded
3. See that the Pendrive is properly connected
