Radio turns on and map goes on for 2 seconds voltage goes from 12 to 7 volt on the +12 side. Volt for the radio is 12 volt and drops to 7 on the rem side.

1.verify connections...Make sure your ground wire is grounded to a location on the body where you will sand the paint away to make good metal to metal contact.
2.with a volt meter check for battery voltage on the red wire of the amp as close to the amp as possible.verify that your remote or trigger wire from the radio (blue wire) id connected to the remote terminal of the amp.. turn on key switch, turn on radio and see if amp powers up. if no then verify 12 vdc at the remote terminal of amp, very 12vdc at red power wire. verify ground. If all this is good i would suspect you have a faulty amp.

It sounds like you have constant 12volts applied to your remote turn on lead. The amplifier will have 3 connections for power:
1. 12volt constant 2. chassis ground 3. 12volt switched power - this wire should come directly from your head unit. It only sends 12 volts when the radio is on allowing to amp to power up only when the radio is on.
Make sure this high powered amp is not mounted directly to the chassis of the car. Mount it to a wooden board and you can screw board into the car. Because some very high powered amps can arc and damage itself.
Next make sure the tubular fuse in the hood is not bad it may look good but internally it got real hot and caused a bad solder connect in the fuse. You can test it with a meter. Measure one side then the other side if the 12 volt is going thru the fuse.
Next step is now you know your amp is getting 12 volts from the car battery but do you know if your amp turn on signal is turning on the amp itself. This is a easy test get a little wire and jump the 12 volt to the amp turn on wire if the amp comes on then you have found your problem. The amp turn on voltage is too weak were ever youve connected the signal. Normally you hook it up to the blue/white wire on the back of the radio first. If it doesnt have one hook up to the blue. Now on some very rare occassions the voltage drops when you put a load to it and is not enough to turn on your amp you can easily see this if the voltage across the blue wire goes below 12volts so hook it up to the red ignition wire so at least when you turn on your radio the red will send 12 volts to the amp to turn it on and will not drop in voltage. You see that wire has to be 12volts when it drops the amp will not turn on. Same with the battery Voltage you have to maintain 12 Volts or higher for the amp to operate.
Check your ground. Make sure you sand off any paint where you grounded the amp. Also did you hook up the remote wire? It's the blue wire on the back of your headunit. Some say remote wire, others say power antenna either one will work. Sounds like one of the two...hope this helps.
Checking wires doesn"t help unless you are checking them with a multi-meter. Amp needs 4 things to turn on. 1) 12volt power from battery, 2) 12 volt power from radio (remote turn on), 3) ground (solid ground to the chassis or the car free from paint or rust), 4) fuses on side of amp need to be good. If any of these 4 things don't measure up then fix them so they do. If all 4 are verified with the meter and still no lights then you might have a dead amp. If the lights are on but no sound, then there are many other things that needs to be checked.
the easiest thing to do is check the voltage at the amp, between the red power wire and the black it should be the same as the voltage across your battery under the hood. now turn your radio on and c heck the remote turn on wire this wire is at the amp and is usually blue it should have 12 volt when the radio is on and 0 volts whe the radio is turned off check between the blue remote wire and the black ground wire unhook subs from amp and check the resistance across the speaker terminals with a digital mutimeter, if your subs are 4 ohms then your reading on the meter should be around 4, if it is close to 1 or 0, then it's probibly your subs. if everything is good check the fuse on the amp
With all amplifiers for a car, you must have the main power connections B+ and ground connected, and then you must also have the remote turn on connected as well. This is the way the amp turns on. It comes from the radio and is usually the blue wire from the harness off the back of the radio. When the radio is turned on, the blue wire gets 12 volts sent to it so it can turn on an external device like an amplifier or the power antenna. Make sure you have this connected to the amp and that the radio is turned on. Then check the voltages at the power terminal of the amplifer. You will have the ground, the main B+ of 12 volts, and then the turn on voltage of 12 volts. If you have all of these, then you need to troubleshoot it more. It will turn on without the speakers connected, but I am not sure why you would want to connect it without the speakers. It will also turn on without the RCA cables connected for the audio input as well. But just to turn on the amplifier, all you need is those three things i mentioned. CONNECT THIS LEAD TO THE REMOTE TURN ON CONNECTION ON THE AMP , SOME KENWOODS HAVE TWO ,INPUT AND OUTPUT LEADS.U ALSO NEED A TEST LIGHT, OR U CAN USE A SPEAKER TO TEST FOR POWER AT UR CONNECTION.IF U USE A TEST LIGHT , CLAMP THE END U WOULD GROUND TO THE VEHICLE, TO THE AMPS GROUND, THEN TOUCH THE PROBE END OF THE TEST LIGHT TO UR WIRED CONNECTION TO VERIFY U HAVE POWER AND GROUND TO YOUR CONNECTION.IF TEST LIGHT DOESN'T WORK ,CHECK UR FUSE AND REMOTE TURN OR LEADS.
There may be more than one problem. The fact that the radio AND the amp are seeing a voltage of 7v indicates that the battery is weak or there is a bad connection somewhere in the power line.
It's also possible that the amp is defective (shorted output transistors?) and when it turns on, it's drawing excessive current. That would cause the voltage to drop more than normal. If the amp is drawing excessive current AND there is a bad connection in the power line, the amp may begin to blow fuses (depending on the reaction time of the protection circuit) when you repair the power line problem.
Check the fuse on the amplifier; if it's good, then you need a multimeter or voltmeter for further testing. With the meter's black probe on your amp's ground terminal and the radio turned on, both the power and the remote terminals should test at about 12 volts. If neither terminal shows voltage, you may have a problem with your ground connection; if both do, there's a problem with the amp.
