Question about Sony CDX-SW200 AM/FM Compact Disc PlayerCDX-SW200

1 Answer

I just purchased the Sony CDX-SW200 from a pawn shop and noticed that it doesn't have a red wire attached to the wiring harness coming from the radio? Is this right? Is there supposed to be a red lead coming from the radio's wiring harness, and if so, would I need one to make the radio light up? I'm getting power because the cd ejects and inserts, but nothing shows up on the display screen??? Also, the harness has an orange lead that doesn't seem to serve any purpose? Could it be possible that this radio has the wrong wiring harness??? PLEASE HELP ME!

You are correct, the unit powers entirely from the red and yellow leads. Your symptoms sound like a unit that isn't getting power on the red (switched) lead. The most likely cause is a blown fuse in your vehicle's fuse box.

A wiring harness for the unit is most likely more than you would pay for a used unit at a pawn shop. Most sony receivers have the terminals labeled on the circuit board. If you are lucky, you can find a dead one at a stereo shop or repair shop near you. They didn't name them explode for nothing. Be careful. 25312832-wng3opgl1pug32fsc4t4fc4i-2-0.jpg

Wiring diagram sony cdx sw200

First, you need power on both the red and yellow wires AT the radio's harness. Be sure to clip your test light to the chassis of the radio, not to the truck. This will insure the radio is also grounded.

The problem with a test light is it can be lit by less than 12 volts but this voltage may not be enough for a radio to function. It is best to use a DMM (Digital Multi-Meter).

Let me know.

CDX-SW200 plays the stereo but not the CD's

sounds like you connected the amp turn on lead to the power antenna wire coming from the deck, so the amp turns on when you have the radio on, but turns off when playing cds. you need to connect the amp turn on lead to the amp remote wire.

If you stop by any car stereo shop, you should be able to purchase a wiring harness that will plug into your car's plug. You can then wire it up to the wires coming from your sony by matching up the standard wire colors.
