Chicony USB 2.0 Camera: NEED HELP!!!!!
I am using a Toshiba Satellite A215-S4747. It has a built in webcam (Chicony USB 2.0 camera) and since I upgraded to vista ultimate it has not worked. I tried what you said to do Control Panel -> System and Maintenance ->Device Manager, and when I got to the folder was under +Other devices and was called Unknown device. When I tried to upgrade it (via internet and browsing) the Computer said "Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device" and explains that Chicony USB 2.0 Camera cannot be installed. I have a toshiba P205-S6247 and after installing viast ultimate the web cam drivers didn't install. I get the following error msg: The driver installation file for this device is missing a necessary entry. This may be because the INF was written for Windows95 or later. Contact your hardward vendor.

- I've tried this and it didnt' work. So you know the chicony usb 2.0 dosen't show up in device manager, there is an unknown device in the list that comes up as the chicony.May 25, 2008

so i found it and it is all installed in my computer but i just cant access it? how do i find the camera program so i can use it?

- Hi...i have the same problem...I have bought Toshiba Satellite A215-S5817 but sad to say only Built In Camera (Chicony USB 2.0 Camera) is not working...Always showing in the Start Up...Webcam Driver Open Failed. - I just bought a toshiba satellite A305D-S6848,I took just one picture with it,and it started showing green shots,when I take a picture.Now its totally black,and it says NO PREVIEW AVAILABLE.I have re-installed the drivers that came with the recovery disk,but its still not working.When I tried the other option of updating the driver,it told me that microsoft checked,and discovered that I have the latest updates.Pls what can I do about it.I really would appreciate it if you can help me with it.My email is worldaz@yahoo.co.uk.I hope to hear from you as soon as possible.Thanks - GuestJun 08, 2008

Follow these steps to re-install the driver for the webcam. You will
need to be logged in as an Administrator or have an Administrator
password ready.1. Click the Windows Start button.
2. Click Control Panel, System and Maintenance and then Device Manager.
3. Right-click on Chicony USB 2.0 Camera and select Update Driver Software. A yellow exclamation point indicates that the camera is recognized by Windows but is not working properly, probably because of problem with the device driver
4. Select Browse my computer for the driver software.
5. Select Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select USB Video Device from the list, and click Next.
7. If the message “Windows encountered a problem installing the driver software for your device” appears, click Close.
8. Restart Windows.
The webcam should now work properly

After instruction 8, you will get a window that asks where to look for the driver. Click on the "search the Internet" link. It installed the Chicony driver and worked for me.

this problem is easy
get the xp driver from your laptop site then right click on the setup icon and choose properities then choose compatibility tick beside
Run this program in ...... then choose windows xp sp2 and ok.
run the set up and enjoy
