Connecting to Direct TV satellite box

I keep getting a NO Signal message on the screen. I have connected the cable from the satellite box to the input for that cable to the TV. But it does not work. I went back to Wal-Mart and bought a HDMI cable for the TV, but there is no place to attach it to the satellite box. Now what do I do????
