Question about Philips AJ3980 Clock Radio

1 Answer

Philips Aj3980 I used some glass cleaner to clean the screen and some of the fluid seeped into the bottom edge of the screen. There must be an electronic panel where the fluid has touched and now I can't get the radio to change channels. Any ideas please? How do I remove the casing to get to the panel to see if I can clean it up?

Have the same problem as i used it in the bathroom where it got damp. about to open it up an have a look, probably just need to dry it out and remove any cleaning residue. you should not use any kind of fluid on the screen, to clean it a barley damp cloth maybe?

What are the approved cleaning fluids for use on the underside of the object glass?

  • Use any fluid approved for use on glasses or camera lenses. Glasses and photo lenses have coatings that should not be subjected to be acidic cleaners. Windex, for example should never be used on car window tint... who knew?!?

I did something wrong.....

Windex is not the best cleaner. Bed and Bath Beyond has a very good NON-Streak class cleaner that I tell my customers to use. The best solution is NOT to Spray directly onto the TV Screen. Remember the glass is only delivering the picture from an RGB projection unit sitting inside the enclosure. It is not the electronic projector and the screen is separate. It can be replaced if damaged; however I believe it is only streaked and needs proper cleansing. If you get the new cleaner, spray the solution onto a soft cloth and wipe the exterior screen. Promptly wipe it dry and if you need to do this a few times, eventually you will get the glass clear and enjoy the show.

Never spray directly on a screen. If the solution seeps into the underside (back etched side of the glass) it could damage the surface. You may have to get to the inside from the rear projection area or lift of the front glass screen and remove it completely. Usually the Rear surface of the screen is etched and can be wiped clean. Go to Bed Bath and get a good streak less windows cleaner. Spray it on a soft cloth and wipe the front and/or back glass. Wipe dry with a CLOTH, not a paper towel, and when dry use a flash light to see any streaks or blemishes left behind. Clean again is necessary. Do not apply pressure, gently clean and try not to cause scratches as they show up when the projection device flashes the image on the glass portion. Put it all back they way it was and enjoy.

What is the best to use to clean fingerprints on the screen? Soap and water or glass cleaner?

I always suggest Monster Screen cleaner, It is not alcohol based and is designed for cleaning LCD screens. I use this professionally in my tv shop, this stuff is great, even removes crayon marks.

I have a pHILLIPS 46 INCH PROJECTON tv. tHERE SEEMs to be a blue arc of light on the bottom third of the tv. When there is white on the screen it reflects in blue.

If the convergence is OK in this area of the screen, msot likely there is a problem with the coolant fluid in the blue tube. Somtimes the fluid starts breaking down and gets cloudy or a bubble has developed in the fluid. Look down through the blue lens from the back while the set is playing and see if you can see the problem. Could also be something on the lens itself. Clean it with ammonia free glass cleaner. Thanks for using fixya.

How to clean the screen

Use a soft lint free cloth and any glass cleaner. The trick is to spray the cloth instead of the TV screen. Spraying the screen itself could let cleaner run too far down and on to the circuit board. Thanks for using fixya.

How do I take the front screen off to clean the bugs out? Philips 60PP9100D-37 60" Widescreen Projection TV

First: do not take front screen off for cleaning--easy way is to remove entire black plastic shroud (you look at back of set and you will see 2 silver pegs near top edge) This set uses torks type screws---you need to remove several and the entire upper plastic in back comes off. The mirror is suspended separate from this. With the shroud removed you can clean the lens of the 3 picture tubes or any debris on the inside of the screen----do not use glass cleaner on the screen; but if you have smudges or bugs on the inside just use a very fine soft cloth(you may need to moisten it slightly) Any mark you make will show! If you find you have spider webs use a swiffer type duster to remove them.

I do this here for free so if this was helpful give me a vote here. If you have questions or need help let me know.
