thank you so much for your reply.. ive been using the straight stitch all week with no problems.. the zz stopped after the first day and the thread just pulls right out.
Ive used three different needles, adjusted tension and turned the pattern screw (or whatever it is).. i just got off the phone w/ brother and did everything they said.
They told me the nearest service station (like an hour away), ill call them and see what they say, then maybe just ask the place i bought it from if i can exchange i guess.. it kinda sucks because i have a show coming up and need to have 5 more outfits in the next 10 days arg!

well im not sure what it was supossed to do, but it didnt fix anything. the needle moves free. i took the bobbin cover off and hand cranked it to see in slower motion.. just looks like the bobbin thread isnt being picked up, and since i can stitch a straight line with the ZZ setting, then the thread justpulls right out, im guessing it must be a timing thing.. just odd that it worked for a few hours, then stopped.. what could have caused that and would it happen again that easily?

I eneded up purchasing another machine from the same company. When i get it ill send this one back and they said they'll refund me the cost. We'll see.. i dont have the original box (didnt think id need the bulky thing around ya kno?).. so i was going to just use the box they sent the new one in. Hopefully that wont be a problem i dont need any more trouble with this. its already paying for itself in shipping ha!

its funny actually in slow motion.. i see that its when the needle is going to the right, THAT stitch is the one that comes out, its the one on left that makes the straight stitch.

The needle is bent (replace it). OR the shuttle is out of time (needs to go in for an adjustment)

Are you sure that you don't have it set for the buttonhole stitch? Look at your manual and try the different stitches and threading. Good luck

Ive tried a couple different stitches, only the straight ones work.. sometimes when I do the zig zag it doesnt even sew a straight line, it just comes out.. I don't think the needle is picking up the bottom thread.. i cranked it in slow motion and the top thread just popped oout when the needle moved to the other side

The only other thing I can think of is the needle may be bent, try putting a new needle in other than that I am totally baffled because it sounds really strange. Try calling Brother customer service at 1-877-276-8437 and ask them about it. I wonder if it has faulty timing? Or else, can you return it for another machine with no cost to you? My granddaughter has the same machine and we have had no problem with it, thank goodness. But, you shouldn't have to put up with this problem. Good luck.

I would just take it back, hopefully it was a local store. If, they couldn't help you at customer service, it must be a lemon. You sound like you have too many projects to do and do not have the time for this nonsense. Please let me know how you make out because I do care how you get it solved.

  • Mary Dunn Oct 01, 2010

How have you made out? I have had my fingers crossed for you and hope that you are able to get your projects out of the way. If, you were able to resolve the problem, please share with me, how you were able to. Or, did you have to get a new machine?

i dont kno yet. ive contacted BROTHER and they gave me the nearest service center.its about 40minutes away and when i called them they couldnt even tell me how long before it could get looked at.
then i contacted the company i purchased it from, they said they'd have to receive the one i have before they could send out a new one (evidentlyit could takeup to two weeks?). so i asked them if they could send the new one, charge the account i purchased THIS one with, then just refund me when i send this one back. should hear freom them today.
I really cant see going thru the trouble of going to the service center and waiting a week or so to service on a machine i just bought a week ago.
ive also considered contacting a localguy that services them, see if he can swing by and at least check it out for me, if its not picking up the bobbin thread when it zigs to the left its gotta be a timing thing.. right?
I dont know what to do at this point i didnt want to spend $$ on it as it was inexpensive to begin with and i was on a major budget when i got it. it had excellent reviews and it was simple enough fore what i needed. arg.
i might contact that guy and see if he can come by asap. if its simple enough thats fine, if its not id rather just send it back and get a new one. but i can at least do straight stitches for now til they send the new one, hopefully they can do that, but Im not sure the account i used to by it will be usable for another one so.. i may also just be screwed haha

Well, I certainly hope that they take care of you. It has to be the timing or the needneedlle shaft is bent. Does the needle shaft move back and forth easily? I lent my niece my sewing machine years ago and she tried to zig zag with the straight stitch foot and knocked it out of whack. My husband oiled my machine and then worked the needle shaft back and forth pulling a little to left and right until it worked freely, then it zz'd. . I had to move it physically each time I sewed but I never took it in for repair. I still have the machine, call me crazy but it was the first machine I ever had that was new. You can email me at Another person suggested set it at its widest stitch and sew in reverse with no thread, I don't know if that will work or not but worth a try.

Brother LS-2125 bunches bobbin thread then won't sew.

Check your stitch sample. Dollars to donuts it's the top thread bird nesting (also called thread nesting) under the fabric. Issues appearing under the fabric is usually top thread related. Problems appearing on the top of the fabric is usually bobbin thread related.

Remove the top thread from your machine.
Be sure to start with a brand new needle.
ALWAYS RAISE the presser foot and rethread the top.

My brother LS-2125 will not do zigzag stitch needle moves from side to side but only does occasionally zigzag

If you are saying the needle zig-zags but the upper thread is not catching the bobbin thread every stitch, then it could be a timing issue.

The tread is breaking while sewing with brother ls 2125

The needle thread breaks
1. the needle thread is not threaded properly
2. The needle thread tension is to tight
3. The needle is bent or blunt
4. The needle is incorrectly inserted
5. The needle thread & the bobbin thread are not set under the presser foot when starting to sew
6. the threads were not drawn to the rear after sewing
7. The thread is either to heavy or to fine for the needle

What is the problem when the top thread wont pick up the bobbin thread

1) Check the needle or replace with a new one. A needle has a groove in one side of it and that is the side that the thread enters the needle. Some thread from the side and some from the front.
(2) Before sewing, manually turn the wheel to make the needle go down while holding the needle thread with your left hand. When the bottom thread pulls up, pull both threads toward the back of the machine before sewing.
(3) Make sure your pressure foot has been lowered. Sounds silly, but if you lift is high it might just look like it is engaged.
(4) Try it on two ply fabric first and try both a straight stitch and a zig zag and see if you have problems with both.
(5) Make sure your thread is really machine thread and not hand sewing thread.
(6) Make sure the bobbin thread is feeding off the bobbin spool in the right direction.
(7) Anything other than these is probably a tension problem or a timing problem.

My machine sews straight when set to zig zag and skips stitches sometimes. It zig zags but only gets half the stitch.

If your using a stretch fabric, youll need to sew in a stiffner tape. if the fabric "flags" i.e moves up and down with the needle it spoils the loop needed to form a stitch. If your having problems with a stiffer fabric it could be just a bad or too thin a needle. Check threading, needle condition and setting.

Appearence of loop and no zigzag stich on ls-2125i brother

The loopy stitching is usually do to threading the machine with the presser foot down.

Raise the presser foot and re-thread or pull about 8" of thread through the needle and see if the loopy stitches go away.

This may also be the issue with the zig-zag stitch.

When the machine is threaded with the presser foot down, the tension is closed and the thread cannot enter as it should for the tension to control the flow of thread to the needle. The thread then feeds too fast and the stitching is distorted.

Brother LS-2125 Upper Thread Snapping

I had the same problem and it was so frustrating! It was happening to me because I wasn't using the right size needle. Go up a couple of needle sizes and see if that helps.

When using your zig zag are you readjusting the needle from 0 either to the left or right, if you dont adjust the left/right margins the needle will stay straight and wont zz even though you have one of the selectors on zz you need both readjusted should be a small dial or lever on the machine and when you move it you will see the needle move as well
