    Thanks for your response.

I turn it on to dry a load of clothes and the top of dryer starts getting warm and eventually hot to touch, so I turned it off and pulled it out from the wall and it got even hotter while the dryer was turned off. It is a GE DX4500EG0WWW.

    Again thanks for your help.

Heating element coil has shorted to the metal housing. This is usually caused by items like nails or other metallic objects (left in pockets) falling into the heater assembly. There should not be any continuity between the heater leads and the housing. Unplug and do not use until issue with heater has been resolved

Why is my Frigidaire dryer model #FER86600ES0 getting extremely hot on the top and back?

Good afternoon friend, thanks for the post!

I see from your post that your Frigidaire dryer is getting extremely hot on the top and back. Have you checked to make sure that it is getting proper ventilation? I would verify nothing is blocking your dryer from ventilating which could be causing the appliance to heat up. If it continues to heat up I would reach out to a technician to come diagnose and repair your dryer. I hope this is helpful. -Matt

GE dryer very hot on top--hasn't been used

Often times the element has broken (burned out) and is now touching the element housing causing it to heat up and stay on even though the dryer is not even running.

The top of my get dryer is extremely hot, the dryer is turned off. The only way to cool in down is unplug it. As soon as I plug in back in it gets hot.

the only way that machine is hot is by two alternatives:

se the diagram a) The contacts L/H is closed all the time, they are NOT open, this close one side of the heating element b) The centrifugal switch of the motor is defective, remain closed all the time and NOT open, this close one side of the heating element.

God bless you

The drum is turning but it's blowing cold air, no hot air not even warm. The last time it was used it was hotter than usual, but now nothing.

Hi, If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heatingthe most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glowssometimes it is still not working properly. if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip.... If you have an electric dryer, you can have many differentthings that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat. check outthis electric no heat tip...

Very hot to touch on top

Sounds like you have a clogged vent hose or clogged duct work leading to the outside of the home. Make sure you have no obstructions in the exhaust system including a functioning flap on the outside wall cap.

Hot point dryer

Three problems
  1. :Heater thermal fuse is blown, not a repairable/resettable item, replace the thermal fuse.
  2. the controller that turns on the heater, is fubar
it is a relay with 120v solenoid coil and 120v terminals for the motor and 240v terminals for the heater. the 240v side has fused closed so does not turn off. not a repairable item replace the relay
  3. The scraping noise could be from drum bearings/rollers Check the roller bearings under the rear of the drum, to make sure they still turn freely and have not dropped, check the felt ring at the front of the drum to see if it is worn out

  1. as soon as you started the motor a rush of very overtemperature air travelled down the exhaust duct and melted the thermal cutout screwed on the side of the duct, inside the dryer. These items are between $7-$13, and every washer/dryer parts store has them, there are only 4 or five different ones in all the makes of dryer.
  2. Locate the run relay, and remove it, test with a ohmmeter or battery and bulb, across the load terminals, ALL load terminals should have, no light on the lamp, infinity ohms on the meter,
solenoid coil terminals should have about 100ohm on the meter, faint glow on the lamp
relays are $18 -$90 (rippoff but some have to use OEM parts)
  3. roller kits are $9+, felts between $12-$30
