Our sink and garbage disposal was clogged up. We got the sink unclogged, but the dishwasher had dirty water in the bottom and won't drain.

Your dishwasher drains into the garbage disposal. It you tried to use a plunger to clear your clogged sink or run the disposal with to much junk in it you may have force debris into the dishwasher drain hose. With both the dishwasher and garbage disposal disconnect from power disconnect the dishwasher drain hose from the garbage disposal. This is usually about a one inch black hose. Clear out any debris in the hose and inlet nipple on the garbage disposal. If debris is compacted far down the hose it will need to be disconnected from the dishwasher end and remove to clear the blockage.

Good luck!

Dishwasher not draining

Hello,
Try to check if the hose is clogged..Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line..You should remove this line and clear it form any debris in the hose or the hose connection..Then reattach it before starting your washer again..Thank you..

Please post back how things turned on or further assistance..!!

Tip

Garbage Disposal Leak from bottom of motor

If you have a garbage disposal and you find that it is leaking then you need to first of all figure out where exactly the water is coming from. The reason is that depending on where it is leaking from will determine whether it is easily fixable or if it would be better to just replace the entire garbage disposal.

With this is mind the best way to find the leak is to put the plug in place and fill the sink with water. Then place a food coloring or non-toxic dye into the water. Red often is a very easy color to spot under your sink. Then let the water down the sink with the disposal running. If the water runs down the side of the garbage disposal then you have a leak at the seal where the garbage disposal hooks up to the sink. This can easily be fixed by removing the garbage disposal, cleaning the old plumbers putty off of the ring and sink bottom, and then reinstalling the garbage disposal.

If you do not see any water coming down the sides, but it comes out the drain pipe, then the drain may be clogged and/or the seals for the drain piping are bad. The seals can easily be tightened. They may have come loose from the vibration of the motor or just the expansion and contraction that occurs from hot and cold water going down the drain lines. If the drain lines are clogged a garbage disposal safe drain cleaner can be used or the drain can be taken apart, cleaned and snaked.

If you have the dreaded water coming out of the bottom of the garbage disposal then you have the worst problem. The internal seals that are to prevent the water coming into the motor where the shaft goes through to the actual grinding chamber have deteriorated to the point where they no longer keep the water from coming into the motor. The water will make its way down through the motor and run out the weep hole or the reset button.
These seals are replaceable, but a new motor is needed for a complete fix on many garbage disposals. Because of this, many times the parts to repair this leak will be at least 75% the cost of a new garbage disposal. This makes repairing your garbage disposal, not a very good option. Replacing the whole unit is often the best way to go to make sure you have a fix that will last for a longer period of time.

That should cover all of the potential ways that your garbage disposal can leak. Hopefully you are able to pinpoint the leak and make the correct call to fix your leaking garbage disposal.

Water will not drain. I did have a new garbage disposer installed a couple of days ago, but don't know enough about dishwashers to even see where it connects to the disposer.

Hi Ruthp53, I am JK. I see that you have installed a new garbage disposal and now are having problems with your dishwasher (model FGHD2433KF) draining. I would recommend checking for blockage at garbage disposal and the drain. Also, new garbage disposables normally have a plug that will need to be taken out.
Hope this helps!

The plug on the bottom of the garbage desposal is loose and water is coming out

It sounds like the disposal is rusted out if water comes out the bottom.
Check top and sides to see if water is seeping down from the sink strainer of dishwasher connection.
Check tailpiece to see is drain is leaking.
If disposal is rusted, it has to be replaced.
I wrote ez steps from days I worked apartment maintenance.

WHEN I RUN MY SINK IT DRAINS INTO MY DISHWASHER BOTTOM. I HAVE SNAKED THE HOLE AND IT STILL FILLS THE BOTTOM THEN I RUN IT EMPTY THEN FILL AND RUN AGAIN. HELP

The dishwasher drain line that connects to the garbage disposal or pipe under the sink should be looped above the height of disposal or pipe to prevent
sink water from backflowing into dishwasher.

Most dishwashers have some form of internal backflow preventer inside the water sump assy..
Yours may be degraded or stuck open.

Once my dishwasher completed the cycle there is no water but after two or three days the bottom of the dishwasher fills with the dirty water. what could be the reason? I have garbage disposal and one pipe...

You must have your dishwasher connected directly to the garbage disposal and not through an air gap. What is happening is when you disposal fills with water it is siphoning through the drain hose back to the dishwasher. If you sink has a spare hole on the deck install air gap and run dishwasher drain through air gap first. Otherwise make sure you run Garbage disposal often so that water does not get slowed and build up inside.

Dishes not clean enough. as if rinsing in dirty

If your dishwasher drains it's water to a garbage disposal, give the disposal a spin while the dishwasher is pumping out. Check around the bottom of the dishwasher to make sure something is not clogging the drain.

Dishwasher not draining

I had water at the bottom of my 4 year old plus dishwasher and of course I thought the worst. Did the pump go out, bad impeller, or what else could it be! I started with the easy stuff first and disconnected the drain lines. The drain line runs from the dishwasher to an air gap mounted to my sink, which keeps the drain line from getting an airlock. From the air gap device another larger line runs to the garbage disposal. I used an 8MM wrench to loosen the clamps enough to pull the drain lines off and drained them into a bucket. There really wasn't any resistance to water flow and no real chunks, I was disappointed.
I then took the actual air gap out of the sink by removing a large plastic nut and pulling the devise out from underneath the sink. When I inspected the air gap I saw a wad of hairy, feathery plastic stuff blocking the flow of water. I took the chunk out, reassembled everything and it works like new again.
It is a very easy fix and now even the area under the sink is clean to boot.

Dishwasher won't drain

Since water doesn't drain out ,it could be a clogged in the drain line. Often the problem is at the point where the drain line attaches to the garbage disposer or household drain line. You should remove this line and clear it form any debris in the hose or the hose connection. Be sure to reattach the hose before starting the dishwasher again. Good luck!
