Well, if this is your computer you purchased, ie: HP, Compaq, Gateway, etc. then more than likely the password is simple.... nothing. Not the word nothing, but a blank entry. Try that. IF not, then you could always press F8 while the computer powers on and then you can try to start the computer up into Safe Mode. and at the login screen there it may work. With the user name 'Administrator' and a blank password. If not, there are ways to remove Windows passwords.

  • Login as other user (if other user is available) and manage users. Must be an administrator.
  • Reformat computer.

Hi I have another computer a windows xp and I forgot my password what can I do without paying money to recover it do I need to make a system repair disk on this computer

The first thing you can do is try accessing the Administrator account. To make this easier, boot into Safe Mode, and login as Administrator. Turn on the computer, and keep tapping F8 as soon the the bios/post/splash screen is passed, you have to do this quickly. If you do this correctly, you'll see the Windows Advanced Boot Menu, hightlight the Safe Mode using your keyboard's up/down arrow keys and press enter to select and start booting. Wait until you see the the Windows xp welcome screen, select "Administrator" and proceed, if you see any warning message, click "Ok" or "yes", once you are logged in, right-click "My Computer", select "Manage". The Computer Management window will open up, now locate "Local Users and Groups", click the "+" sign beside it and again click "Users", look at the right-pane, you'll see your username (the username you've forgotten your password), right-click your username, and click "Set Password" or if "Reset Password" is available, click it. Set a new password and there you go, you now have reset your windows xp password. Please note that if you have any "encrypted" files or folders, you may be having problem opening them, but if you don't know what is encrypted in Windows, I guess you didn't do that.

Once everything is done, restart your computer and login to your account.

If in case your Administrator account has a password, you won't be able to do this, in many instances, the Administrator password is "admin" (without quotes), so you can try with it, otherwise you'll need a tool like Ophrack or Nt Password reset tool to get this done.

Let me know if you need further help..

Good Luck.

Thanks for using FixYa.

Forgottten password

Press F8 on the onset of the pc's startup. You'll be redirected to the advanced boot configuration. Select Safe Mode and will be redirected to the login screen. Choose Administrator as the login. As soon as you were able to login under the administrator profile, follow this. Go to control panel --> User Accounts --> select the Account that you're having difficulty loggin in --> remove password ---> delete all characters under the field ---> click OK. Restart the computer normally.
If it happens that the administrator login also asks the same password, this would mean that your own profile is the administrator and the only way to eliminate this would be to do a Repair or OS reinstallation.

I forgot my Password to the Login of my Laptop

Have your HP laptop login password forgotten? Do you have another administrator? Have you created Windows password reset disk on your HP computer when it is available? Or whether you have installation CD?

If you have administrator, just change HP login account to this administrator and access HP computer with it. At this time, no matter which account, you can easily change or remove its password on Control Panel.

If you have password reset disk, on Windows login screen after you type incorrect password, there will be a message "Reset Password" prompting you to reset forgotten Windows password with reset disk. Just follow password reset wizard to do.

If you have installation CD, it will help you to restore HP computer or repair computer. But it is still dangerous for us to use it because it will delete some important data on your computer.
In consideration of data safe on computer, Windows Password Genius provides a safe Windows password reset environment WinPE. With it and in such password recovery environment, you will don't need to worry about data lost or damaged.

This is a video showing how to use it.

Windows XP - Cannot access user name or adminstrator name to log in

Have You Lost Your Windows Admin Password?

Forgetting your Windows administrator login password. With no way to get into the system, you can’t even perform basic maintenance, let alone a thorough tune-up. Formatting is always an option, but we consider that a last resort. (Plus, guess who’s going to have to help reinstall all the programs lost after a wipe?) But all hope is not lost. There are a few ways to actually retrieve a lost Windows account password. Read on, and we’ll show you the light.

1st Method:
The first thing which you check if you forget login password. When we install Windows, it automatically creates an account "Administrator" and sets its password to blank. So if you have forget your user account password then try this:
Start system and when you see Windows Welcome screen / Login screen, press <ctrl>+<alt>+<del> keys twice and it'll show Classic Login box. Now type "Administrator" (without quotes) in Username and leave Password field blank. Now press Enter and you should be able to log in Windows.
Now you can reset your account password from "Control Panel -> User Accounts".
Same thing can be done using Safe Mode. In Safe Mode Windows will show this in-built Administrator account in Login screen.

2th Method:
There are a lot of Windows password revealers and crackers available, but we’ve found that Windows Password Recovery Tool is the most effective.:
Windows Password Recovery Tool is one of the easiest password recovery tools to use. It allows you to reset a user account password, including the Administrator password. It is also a relatively small download.

Yes, when you switch the laptop on hold down the F8 key until you see a black screen with a list of white text, one of the options will be "Safe Mode", use the arrow keys to highlight safe mode (just safe mode, not safe mode with anything) and press return. The computer will start to the welcome screen and you will see a user-name you don't normally see called "Administrator". Click on Administrator and you will find it is not password protected (in spite of the fact that the Administrator account has more access to the system than any other account!) when the administrator profile loads it will ask you if you want to continue in safe mode and you do. click start, click control panel and click on users and groups now click on your son's user account and click remove password. now click back, click on the Administrator account and click change password, the old password should be left blank and you're new Administrator password should be something at least 7 letters, numbers and special characters (!@£$%^&*) long that you can remember. Now just restart and let it start up normally, once loaded advise your son to set a password he can remember or at least write down somewhere safe.
