Has no spark. replace the control module and still no spark

problem component in the ignition control module overheating and switching the module off
the backfire is an in appropriate spark time from a problem control module

ESC module is for electronic spark control and is located on engine block near ignition coil . it's to control spark advance for timing.

Hi, Spark is controlled by the computer. Where and when(timing). You can not change that. Each cylinder has 1 coil and spark plug. That module is built in to the computer. There are sensors around the engine that send info to the computer. Air, spark, timing, and fuel. When these things work properly the engine will run.

The ICM is located under the hood, next to the coil pack and spark plug wires. Here the part: Pontiac Grand Am Ignition Control Module (ICM).

If you ar having distribution problem and misfire check also the crankshaft position sensor. It signal is used to control coils and sparks.

coil-pack could have gone bad its replace-able auto parts should have them..

No spark usually is caused by coil (which you already replaced), ignition control module, or pickup coil inside the distributor. The coil and the control module are the most common. The control module is located just outside the distributor, you may be able to take it off and have it tested at the dealer. The pickup coil is inside the distributor, unfortunetly there's no way to test them. Also check plugs and wires if they haven't been replaced in awhile.

Does it got a distribiter or does is it have a coil pack.I'm thinking an distribiter with 4 spark plug tirminals,I would look into the Ignition Control Module if it has one.I looked at a parts listing for the car and it shows it has one but looked at a Typical Ignition System Schematic and it doesn't show the igniton control module in there.But i would think it is needed to control the spark.I would look into it and see if there is one,if there is i would test it that would be my guess of what's causing no spark.I got a pic of the ignition control module and theTypical Ignition System Schematic for you.
